Things to do in Whitby

Esk Valley Railway

Passing through some of the most beautiful countryside in the country, the Esk Valley Railway passes through a dozen rural communities on it’s journey between Whitby and Middlesbrough. A true treasure, the railway line is supported by a not-for-profit organisation that looks to preserve this magnificent stretch of track whilst looking to promote it to visitors and locals alike.

You can purchase a ticket at any station along the route, either from staffed stations or from conductors on the train and if you are staying in Whitby and want to take in the railway on your way to do some shopping you can jump on-board and head to Middlesbrough to hit the shops, or indeed, if you are looking for more history you can change at Middlesbrough and head to York to soak up some more culture from another fantastic historic Yorkshire town.

Adult day returns are £10.80, whilst children’s are £5.40 and a map of the route can be seen below and a the timetable here.
