4 Steps Women Can Take to Get That Raise | Quicken Loans

– Hi, I’m Catherine Alford. I’m a family finance
expert and financial writer dedicated to helping you live
your best financial life. I’m a mom of twins, the
wife of a busy physician, and together we’re paying down
six figures of student loans, all while trying to save for the future. I know what it’s like to
juggle many responsibilities. And I’m excited to share what
I’ve learned along the way so you can make the most of your finances. If you’ve been working hard at your job and believe that you deserve a raise, there are certain steps you need to take to ensure that you get it. Here’s how. Step number one, talk to
your boss ahead of time and let them know that
you are looking forward to discussing your compensation. That way they already
have it in their mind that when you go to your annual or your quarterly review meeting that you are looking for a raise. Step two, keep impeccable records. If you get a positive email
from a client or a customer, print it out and keep it. If you get a positive testimonial from someone on another team or someone remarks on how
easy it was to work with you, make sure you document it. No one is going to do the work for you and no one knows how hard
you work except for you. Everything you do in your job
where you go above and beyond, make sure that you mention
it and keep a record of it so that your boss will be more impressed when you go in for that meeting. Step three, do your research. It’s a lot easier to ask for a raise if you know what your
average market value is. Go online, speak with other people who
have similar jobs to you, whether at your company or
other similar companies, and get a general sense
of how they’re paid. Then if you think that you
do an above average job, you can ask for above the
national average for your field. The more research you do, the better sense you can
get of the types of salaries people earn with your skill level. Step four, and this is probably
the most important step, be confident. No one is going to
simply offer you a raise and it’s going to be really hard for them to notice that you’re doing a good job, especially if you work with
a lot of different people. It is up to you to ask for what you want. It’s up to you to write down
all the wonderful things that you do at work. I know it’s hard to talk about money and I know it’s hard to go in there and say great things about yourself. But just know that you can’t
get the raise that you deserve unless you get in there and ask for it.
