NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – Full Race – 2014 Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas

>>THIS IS IT FOR ME.
THERE IS NO BIGGER RACE. DRIVING AROUND DRIVER INTRODUCTIONS, THERE ARE PEOPLE
WHO ARE HERE I WOULDN’T BE HERE WITHOUT THEM.
>>CARL, WE GOT A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO RACE HERE.
I’M GOING TO BRING UP SOMETHING THAT I KNOW DRIVERS DON’T LIKE
TO THINK ABOUT. FROM THE REPAVE OF THIS
RACETRACK, WHY ARE THERE MORE CAUTIONS?
>>OH, MAN, WE’RE JUST GOING SO FAST.
DRIVING INTO THESE CORNERS, WAY OVER 200 MILES PER HOUR THE AERO
PORTION OF THIS RACING IS SO INTENSE, AND IF YOU’RE CLOSE AND
YOU GET LOOSE BECAUSE THE AIR IS DIRTY, YOU JUST LOSE IT IN AN
INSTANT. NASCAR HAS TO MAKE A HARD TIRE
TO WITHSTAND KNOW LOADS NO ROOM FOR ERROR.
>>CARL, HAVE GREAT, SAFE DAY OUT THERE.
>>COOL, GOING TO BE FUN.>>CARL EDWARDS STARTING IN 12th
POSITION TODAY. YOU CAN SEE THE VIEW FROM CARL’S
CARENED ALL OF THE OTHERS BY CHECKING OUT
NASCAR.COM/RACEBUDDY. LIVE FROM HERE IN KANSAS CITY.
SPEAKING OF THOSE HIGH-DEFINITION ONBOARD CAMERAS,
BRAD KESELOWSKI IS CARRYING OUR FORD ECOBOOST ONBOARD.
AND KEVIN HAS THE SPRINT ON BOARD.
KASEY KAHNE, WITH THE CHEVY ON BOARD.
KYLE BUSCH HAS THE TOYOTA ON BOARD.
JEFF GORDON HAS THE SPRINT ON BOARD CAMERA AND JIMMIE JOHNSON
HAS THE GOODYEAR ON BOARD.>>ALL RIGHT, FELLAS IT’S A
BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A RACE ONCE AGAIN.
WE HAVE A TASK AHEAD OF US HERE.>>THE TASK IS GETTING FROM 32nd
STARTING SPOT TO THE FRONT. CARL EDWARDS, THE SUNOCO ON
BOARD. OUR MAIL BAG QUESTION CAME FROM
LAS VEGAS. THE HOMETOWN OF THE FIRST PIT
REPORTER TODAY, JAMIE LITTLE HAS IT FOR US.
>>THAT’S RIGHT, ALLEN, YOU MENTIONED THE 48 IT’S BEEN A
STRUGGLE FOR JIMMIE JOHNSON AND THIS TEAM ON WEEKEND.
ON FRIDAY IN QUALIFYING, HE SPUN AND AS A RESULT HE’LL START 32nd
AND THAT TIES THE WORST STARTING POSITION OF THE YEAR AND I
TALKED TO THE CREW CHIEF THIS MORNING, HE SAID THERE’S SIMPLY
LACKING SPEED AND THEIR GOAL TODAY IS TO STAY ON THE LEAD
LAP. JIMMIE JOHNSON HAS 11 STRAIGHT
TOP TEN FINISHES HERE, IT WOULD BE A BIG REBOUND TO FINISH IN
THE TOP TEN HERE.>>MATT KENSETH HAS WON 2 OF THE
LAST 4 SPRINT CUP RACES HERE. BEST AVERAGE FINISH OF ANYONE
SINCE THIS TRACK WAS RECONFIGURED BACK IN 2012.
THIS TRACK AWARDS PATIENCE AND PRECISION.
KENSETH, THIS TEAM KNOWS THAT HE’S WAY BACK IN 27th SPOT.
THEY BELIEVE WHEN THE CHECKERED FLAG WAVES HE’LL BE IN TOP TEN.
>>A VARIETY OF FRUSTRATES FOR KEVIN HARVICK AND THIS 4 TEAM.
BUT HIS CREW CHIEF GATHERED THE GROUP TODAY AND ENCOURAGED EACH
MEMBER TO FOCUS ONLY ON THEIR JOB, THEIR RACE TEAM, THEIR CAR,
AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. AND IF THEY DO THAT, THEY
BELIEVE THAT THEIR DAY WILL INCLUDE A TRIP TO VICTORY LANES.
DAVE BURNS.>>JEFF GORDON’S TEAM HOVERED
NEAR VICTORY WITH FOUR TOP FIVES BEFORE BREAKING THROUGH HERE AT
KANSAS. I ASKED THE CREW CHIEF ABOUT HOW
IT’S GOING THIS WEEKEND, IF THE CAR IS GOING SLOW AND JEFF IS
HAPPY, THAT’S BAD NEWS. HE SAID THAT THE CAR WAS FAST
AND JEFF WAS NEVER HAPPY IN PRACTICE.
JEFF GORDON STARTS FIFTH IN NASCAR.
>>FAST CAR, HAPPY DRIVER. I’LL TAKE THE FAST CAR IN THAT
BALANCE. I EXPECT THE TWO OF YOU TO HAVE
A DIFFERENT OPINION.>>JEFF IS GETTING A LITTLE BIT
LIKE MARK MARTIN WAS, WHEN HE’S MAD ABOUT HIS CAR HE’S HARD TO
BEAT.>>IN THIS RACE A YEAR AGO, A
WHOLE PILE OF CAUTION FLAGS. AND IN THE MAY RACE HERE, WE HAD
ABOUT HALF THE NUMBER, BUT ALL OF THEM STILL WERE FOUR CRASHES.
IT’S GOING TO BE A DAY WHERE THE DRIVERS BEHIND THE WHEEL AND I
THINK THE CREW CHIEFS ON TOP OF THE PIT BOXES ARE ALL GOING TO
BE ON PINS AND NEEDLES TO SEE HOW IT UNFOLDS 37.
>>YEAH, WE STILL HAVE THE WIND BLOWING HERE TODAY.
A HOTTER TRACK SURFACE. WE’LL SEE MORE OF THAT AND
TIGHT, TIGHT COMPETITION.>>JOEY LOGANO LINED UP IN THE
SECOND ROW IN THE TEAM PENSKE 22 CAR.
>>KEEP DOING WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING.
>>IT HAS BEEN WORKING WELL. TOP FIVE FINISHES.
THE ONLY DRIVER TO POST TOP FIVE FINISHES IN ALL THREE OF THE
CHASE RACES SO FAR. JOEY STARTING IN FOURTH POSITION
TODAY. 400-MILE RACE, 267 LAPS THE
SCHEDULED DISTANCE. KEVIN HARVICK, THE POLE SITTER
HAS CHOSEN THE OUTSIDE LANE. HIS EIGHTH POLE OF THE SEASON.
197 MILES AN HOUR THE QUALIFYING SPEED ON THIS MILE AND A HALF
TRACK. AND EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT THE
FURTHER BACK IN TRAFFIC, THE HARDER IT IS TO RESTART.
THE PACE CAR IS OFF. RACE ONE OF THE CONTENDER ROUND.
>>>JEFF GORDON. DALE EARNHARDT JR.
SIDE BY SIDE FOR SIXTH PLACE.>>THIS RACETRACK OVER THE
WEEKEND REALLY HASN’T WIDEN OUT AS DRIVERS WERE HOPING IT WOULD.
>>YEAH, ONE THING, ONE REASON FOR THAT, THE TEMPERATURE IS
COOLER THE SUN IS OUT. I THINK
IT WILL SPREAD OUT A
LITTLE BIT TODAY AND IT MIGHT MAKE THE TRACK A LITTLE BIT
FORGIVING.>>DRIVERS WERE ANTICIPATING AND
HOPING THAT WOULD BE A CASE.>>ONE WAY HIGH IN TURN TWO.
WE STAY UNDER GREEN. IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS J.Y. YELEY
IN THE 83, MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN UP AND SCRUFFED THE WALL.
AGAIN, NO SPIN. QUICK MENTION, KURT BUSCH HAD TO
GO TO THE TAIL OF THE FIELD, BACKUP CARS, AFTER INCIDENTS IN
PRACTICE YESTERDAY. HERE’S JIMMIE JOHNSON.
WE HAVE THAT PIECE WE CALL THE DANGER ZONE SOMETIMES IN THE
RACING. CERTAINLY STARTING BACK IN 332ND
PLACE THAT’S BEING IN THE DANGER ZONE
>>NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO START YOUR
DAY, YET SOMEBODY IS CALCULATING AND AS PATIENCE AS JIMMIE
JOHNSON, HE’LL FIND A WAY BEFORE 400 MILES ARE UP TO GET HIMSELF
UP INSIDE THE TOP TEN, IF NOT THE TOP FIVE.
>>DENNY HAMLIN RIGHT BACK WITH HIM.
RACING SIDE BY SIDE WITH MIKE McDOWELL.
>>AS MUCH AS ANYTHING FROM THE DRIVER’S PERSPECTIVE, WHEN YOU
HAVE A BAD QUALIFYING EFFORT, THESE AREN’T PEOPLE YOU’RE
NORMALLY RACING AROUND, YOU’RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THEIR HABITS
AND HOW THEY MAY APPROACH THE RACETRACK.
AT TALLADEGA, YOU CAN’T DO THAT. HERE NO PROBLEMS.
>>BRAD KESELOWSKI, JEFF GORDON, BRAD IN FIFTH POSITION IN THE 2
CAR. JEFF TRYING TO TAKE THAT SPOT
FROM HIM IN THE 24.>>GETTING IN IMPORTANT FROM OF
2 CAR HERE, ARIC ALMIROLA HAD A GOOD QUALIFYING EFFORT.
THEY HAD THE ISSUE AT CHICAGO THAT KEPT HIM FROM MOVING ON,
THEY HAVE BEEN REALLY SOLID. THIS PROGRAM IS COMING AROUND
ESPECIALLY AT THESE RACETRACKS.>>THE YELLOW WINDOW BANNER AND
THE SPLITTER GONE ON THAT 43 CAR.
NO LONGER IN THE HUNT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
>>YEAH, AND IT IS A SHAME. LIKE YOU SAID, I THINK THEY SET
THEIR PROGRAM UP WHEN THE CHASE STARTED.
THEY HAD THE PERFORMANCE, JUST NOT THE LUCK THEY’VE NEEDED.
>>ARIC SAID THAT THIS IS ONE OF HIS BETTER TRACKS.
EVERYBODY BUMPED OUT OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDING GROUP
CAN STILL FINISH AS HIGH AS FIFTH IN POINTS.
IF YOU’RE RICHARD PETTY MOTORSPORTS, IF YOU WANT TO GO
BACK AND TELL THEM AT THE START OF THIS SEASON, YOU COULD FINISH
FIFTH IN POINTS? THEY WOULD SAY THAT’S GREAT.
WE’VE MADE PROGRESS, WE’RE MOVING FORWARD.
>>JUNIOR BEHIND JEFF GORDON.>>DALE JUNIOR’S INTERVIEW WITH
US DURING “NASCAR COUNTDOWN,” THE CONFIDENCE HE HAD, FELT THEY
HAD SOME REAL CONFIDENCE IN THIS CAR.
JUNIOR UP TO SIXTH. KEVIN HARVICK OUT IN FRONT.
SOMETHING WE HAVE SEEN A LOT THESE DAYS.
>>>JUST UNDER WAY HERE AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY WITH TODAY’S
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE, MORE RACING TONIGHT ON ESPN2, AT
8:00, THE FINAL ELIMINATIONS OF NHRA FROM READING.
NEXT FRIDAY, NATIONWIDE SERIES. THEN THE BANK OF AMERICA 500,
FIFTH RACE OF THE CHASE IS NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT ON ABC.
A FULL NIGHT’S COVERAGE OF QUALIFYING FOR YOUR THURSDAY
FROM CHARLOTTE AND PRACTICE ON FRIDAY BEFORE THE NATIONWIDE
RACE. LOT OF RACING TELEVISION FOR YOU
NEXT WEEKEND FROM CHARLOTTE. 16 LAPS IN, BRAD KESELOWSKI
LOOKS LIKE HE’S FOUND A LITTLE SOMETHING IN THE HANDING OF
THIS 2 CAR BECAUSE HE’S MOVED UP.
>>I THINK WHAT HE FOUND BRIAN VICKERS TOOK AWAY FROM HIM WAS
THAT LITTLE HIGHER LINE.>>DOESN’T TAKE LONG FOR
SOMETHING TO GET OUT. WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE 43.
VICKERS SAW THE 2. I’M SURE HIS SPOTTER HELPED HIM
A LITTLE BIT THERE AND HE’S BEEN ABLE TO HOLD HIM OFF FOR THE
LAST SIX LAPS NOW.>>DALE JUNIOR TRYING TO SEE
WHICH LANE WILL OPEN UP AND SEE IF HE CAN FOLLOW THROUGH.
TEMPERATURES ARE DIFFERENT TODAY THAN YESTERDAY FOR THE FINAL
PRACTICE SESSIONS AND EVEN FRIDAY FOR QUALIFYING HERE.
CHECK OUT SOME OF THE TRACK TEMPERATURES.
AND LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TRACK TEMPERATURE EVEN FROM
FINAL PRACTICE YESTERDAY TO TODAY.
>>YEAH, IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE FROM INSIDE THE RACE
CAR. YOU KNOW, THERE’S ONE SIDE THAT
THESE DRIVERS WILL TELL YOU IT’S GLAD THAT IT’S WARMING UP, THE
RACETRACK CAN WIDEN OUT AND OUR TIRES CAN GET UP TO TEMPERATURE
A LITTLE BIT QUICKER. BEFORE THIS DAY’S OUT, AS THEY
GET MORE RUBBER DOWN ON THESE PLACES THEY’LL FIND OUT IT’S
GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT SLICKER.
>>THE LAPPED TRAFFIC FOR THESE GUYS RACING FOR POSITION TO
ENCOUNTER AND LOOK WHO’S MOVING FORWARD.
YOU MIGHT SAY HE’S FLYING.>>I TELL YOU WHAT, WATCHING
RIGHT THERE, KESELOWSKI GAVE UP A SPOT TO JUNIOR AND IT LOOKS
LIKE HE MIGHT GIVE THIS ONE UP, TOO.
CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM.
IF HE GOT LOOSE, OR WHAT SLOWED HIS PROGRESS.
>>McMURRAY GETTING UP THERE IN THAT GRAY AREA.
>>HE’S BEEN USING THAT HIGHER LINE, MOVED BY ALMIROLA, IN THE
43 DID McMURRAY. HAS PICKED UP FOUR POSITIONS
SINCE THE START OF THE RACE. AND ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE HOME
DRIVERS, JAMIE, FROM JOPLIN, MISSOURI.
>>HE’S MOVING FORWARD, I TALKED TO HIS CREW CHIEF THIS MORNING.
HE SAID LAST WEEK JAMIE SAID WE HAD A GREAT CAR AND WE ENDED UP
BEING HORRIBLE. THIS WEEK HE SAID WE’RE HORRIBLE
SO HE’S HOPING THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS.
HE STARTED 14th ALL OF THE WAY UP BATTLING FOR FIFTH.
>>AND THAT RACE LAST WEEK WAS KIND OF CONFUSING, TOO, WE
WATCHED McMURRAY PRACTICE, VERY, VERY SOLID AT DOVER.
NEVER MATERIALIZED FOR HIM.>>I TALKED TO HIM ON SUNDAY
MORNING, HE WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT HIS PROSPECTS OF WINNING
AT DOVER. THAT DIDN’T MATERIALIZE.
HE’S TAKING THE SECOND GROOVE TO ANOTHER LEVEL HERE.
CARRYING A LOT OF SPEED THERE. WATCH THE RUN THAT HE GETS OFF
THE CORNER. THIS IS ACTUALLY WHAT I THOUGHT
WE WOULD SEE WITH THE WARMER TEMPERATURES.
>>SO HARVICK AND LOGANO PRETTY WELL CLEAR OF EVERYONE ELSE.
NOW DALE JUNIOR IS CLEAR. VICKERS, 55, McMURRAY 1 AND
KESELOWSKI 2.>>THAT WAS A RISKY PASS.
>>VICKERS MOVED UP AND TRYING TO TAKE AS MUCH OF IT AWAY.
JAMIE TOOK A LITTLE BIT ROOM AND MADE THE PASS.
>>IF YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING ANY KIND OF SPORTS, TELEVISION THIS
WEEKEND, YOU HAVE SEEN JAMIE ALL OVER THE COMMERCIALS FOR HIS
SPONSOR. OUT THERE WITH LeBRON JAMES AND
ALEX MORGAN AND PATRICK KANE OF THE BLACKHAWKS SO FORTH.
>>SEVEN LAPS FROM NINTH TO FIFTH FOR JAMIE McMURRAY, CHILE
KEVIN HARVICK HAS LED ALL OF THE 24 LAPS SO FAR.
THERE’S YOUR TOP FIVE.>>>A COUPLE OF LAPS SHY OF THE
50-MILE MARK AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY. 400-MILE NASCAR RACE.
KEVIN HARVICK HAS LED ALL OF THE LAPS SO FAR.
HE AND JOEY LOGANO HAVE MOVED AWAY FROM REST OF THE PACK, BY A
SECOND, THOUGH THE PACK BEGINNING TO CHASE THEM DOWN A
BIT. THERE’S LOGANO.
DALE JUNIOR. JAMIE McMURRAY.
AND BRAD KESELOWSKI AND THE REST OF THE TOP TEN COMING AT YOU.
SO, THERE’S THE GAP, HARVICK TO LOGANO.
JOEY CONTINUING TO RUN SECOND AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE
HE MIGHT GAIN SOME GROUND.>>THERE’S A FEWOVER THEM.
THE 1 IS RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE OF 3 AND 4.
>>THE SPOTTER HELPING LOGANO NAVIGATE THINGS TODAY.
ALTHOUGH, THAT OBSERVATION WAS GIVEN TO THE 22 DRIVER HE
CONTINUES TO HUG THAT BOTTOM LINE AT THE RACETRACK.
>>I THINK IT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF A CHANGE IN DRIVER — YOU
HAVE TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF A RHYTHM THERE, MAYBE HIS CAR
DOESN’T FEEL AS GOOD TO HIM, IN GOING OVER TO THAT, HE’LL HAVE
TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT.>>DALE JUNIOR AND JAMIE
McMURRAY BEGINNING TO REEL IN THE TOP TWO.
>>McMURRAY HAS BEEN ONE OF THE CONSISTENT CARS ON THE
RACETRACK. YOU CAN SEE THAT OUTSIDE LANE
PRETTY STRONG. WITH KURT BUSCH.
>>THEY STARTED AT THE TAIL END OF THE FIELD AFTER A PRACTICE
CRASH ON SATURDAY. DOC?
>>YEAH, THEY HAD NO PRACTICE WHATSOEVER.
THEY HAD TO GET THIS CAR, MAKE MAJOR ADJUSTMENTS ON THE CAR.
BUT, NO NEED TEARING UP ANOTHER RACE CAR.
COME IN EARLY, MAKE THE ADJUSTMENTS AND BE AWAY.
>>SO, THAT’S THE PROBLEM FOR KURT.
HERE’S THE RACE FOR SECOND PLACE.
>>THIS HAS TO BE ENCOURAGING TO DALE JUNIOR FANS.
I WAS ONE THAT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THIS TEAM HAVING THE SPEED
AND R OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS TO COMPETE AT THIS LEVEL.
>>TALKING TO SOME CREW CHIEFS ABOUT THE BEST CARS IN PRACTICE,
THEY SAID, THIS 88 CAME UP QUITE A FEW TIMES.
>>SO, DALE JUNIOR UP TO SECOND PLACE AFTER STARTING IN EIGHTH
POSITION. SPEEDING PENALTY FOR KURT BUSCH
ON THE PIT STOP, HE’LL BE COMING BACK FOR A PASS-THROUGH PENALTY.
HERE’S JEFF GORDON PASSING BRIAN VICKERS FOR SIXTH PLACE.
>>I CANNOT RUN THIS OUT. I CANNOT RUN THIS OUT.
>>10-4.>>I’M GOING TO GUESS THAT
PROBABLY RIGHT NOW THAT CAR IS PROBABLY ON THE LOOSE SIDE FOR
JEFF. YOU CAN’T GET UP THERE TO CARRY
MORE SPEED.>>SO, JEFF HAVING TROUBLE
RUNNING THE HIGH LINE AND YET STILL PICKING UP ONE SPOT THERE,
AS HE JUST GOT AROUND BRIAN VICKERS WHO’S BACK AT THE SECOND
STARTING SPOT. LONG GREEN-FLAG RUN TO START
THIS RACE. JUST LIKE WE SAW IN THE RACE
HERE IN MAY. SO, WE’LL BE SEEING A GREEN-FLAG
PIT STOP WINDOW COMING UP VERY SOON.
GOING TO GET ANOTHER ONE — NOPE, NOT QUITE.
RACING BRAD KESELOWSKI THERE FOR FIFTH POSITION.
JUST OVER 50 MILES IN TO THE 400-MILER TODAY AT KANSAS.
>>>BACK LIVE AT KANSAS, YOU’RE SEEING THE FIRST LEAD CHANGE OF
THE RACE, CAR NUMBER ONE GOING TO THE NUMBER ONE SPOT ON THE
PYLON, JAMIE McMURRAY HAS DRIVEN FROM 14th STARTING SPOT TO
FIRST.>>WHAT WAS SO IMPRESSIVE BY
THAT PASS IN PARTICULAR, HE WAS WAY UP THERE, HE PASSED HARVICK
ON THE BOTTOM.>>THAT’S ONE OF THOSE CARS THAT
YOU LIKE TO GO IN EITHER PLACE. TREMENDOUS SPEED AT TO WHICH
RACETRACK. HE WAS THE FIRST ONE TO START
THIS TREND GOING TO THE TOP. DALE JUNIOR WENT TO THE MIDDLE.
JAMIE HAS GONE A LOT FATHER UP THAN THAT.
>>GREEN-FLAG PIT STOPS HERE, DAVE.
>>PAUL MENARD IS ON PIT ROAD. HE TALKED ABOUT BEING TIGHT IN
THE CENTER, IN TURN NUMBER ONE, AS HE’S ENTERING THE CORNER,
IT’S NOT TURNING FOR HIM. THEY’LL CHANGE TIRES AND A
CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT.>>McMURRAY HEADED BACK OUT.
CASEY MEARS, MICHAEL ANNETT, COLE WHITT, ALSO ON AND NOW OFF
THE PIT LANE. HERE IS RYAN NEWMAN, WHOSE TRIP
ON TO PIT ROAD WAS A LITTLE ADVENTUROUS.
>>THIS WAS REALLY TIGHT RIGHT HERE.
IT LOOKED LIKE THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM.
THEY SORTED IT OUT.>>FIRST STOP OF THE DAY FOR
NEWMAN, THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD RACE
CAR TODAY. GOT TO GET IT FULL OF FUEL.
COMPLETELY FULL OF FUEL, SUNOCO GAS GOING IN.
AWAY. DALE JUNIOR VERY CONFIDENT TO
COME HERE AND WIN THIS RACE, CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT.
HE SAID I’M SNUGD IN THE MIDDLE AND LOOSE OFF.
VINCE?>>THE 22 OF JOEY LOGANO RUNNING
TOP FIVE THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE DAY TODAY.
CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT AND AIR PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT.
FOUR TIRES FOR LOGANO. JAMIE.
>>IT ONLY TOOK McMURRAY ONLY 43 LAPS TO GO FROM 14th TO 1st.
>>KEVIN HARVICK STARTED FROM THE POLE AND HAS LED MOST OF THE
WAY AND THE CAR A LITTLE BIT SNUG IN CENTER, LOOSE CENTER
OFF. THEY MADE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT.
FOUR-TIRE CHANGE. SUNOCO FUEL.
JAMIE.>>KYLE BUSCH AT THE ONLY TRACK
HE DOESN’T HAVE A TOP FIVE AT, HE’S SAYING HE’S A LITTLE BIT
TIGHT, AERO TIGHT. DAVE?
>>JEFF GORDON LEAD A LAP. THAT’S IMPORTANT.
SUNOCO FUEL GOING IN FOUR FRESH TIRES ON.
GIVE JEFF A WEDGE ADJUSTMENT TO HELP THE BALANCE OF THAT RACE
CAR.>>AND
JIMMIE JOHNSON WHO
STARTED BACK IN 32nd WORKING HIS WAY THROUGH TRAFFIC, FOUR-TIRE
STOP HERE, THEY’LL FILL HIM UP WITH SNOCO FUEL AND WORK ON
THIS CAR, BECAUSE IT’S NOT TOO HANDLING TOO WELL IN TRAFFIC.
DENNY HAMLIN, NOT A GREAT QUALIFYING EFFORT, BUT A GREAT
PIT STOP FOR HIM. THE 2 IS ON PIT ROAD.
>>THIS IS BRAD KESELOWSKI COMING IN FOR HIS FIRST STOP OF
THE RACE. VINCE?
>>BRAD KESELOWSKI, A LITTLE LOOSE IN TRAFFIC, AND SAID THE
FRONT END DOESN’T FEEL AS SECURE AS HE WOULD LIKE, EITHER, IT’S
GOING TO BE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT TO SNUG UP — KESELOWSKI,
FOUR-TIRE CHANGE, REMEMBER, HE’S ALREADY WON ONCE IN THE CHASE.
THIS ISN’T THEIR BEST TRACK BUT THEY HOPE TO HAVE A SOLID DAY.
>>THIS IS THE RACE FOR SECOND PLACE.
BEHIND JAMIE McMURRAY. HARVICK TRYING TO PASS DALE
JUNIOR FOR THAT SPOT.>>A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAVE SEEN
THE BACK OF THAT 4 CAR STEP OUT. DID RIGHT THERE JUST A LITTLE
BIT. STILL ABLE TO GET BY THE 88.
>>PASS-THROUGH PENALTY FOR MIKE WALLACE FOR SPEEDING ON HIS
GREEN-FLAG STOP. EVERYBODY HAS RUN THROUGH THIS
CYCLE OF PIT STOPS. McMURRAY HAS A TWO-PLUS-SECOND
LEAD ON KEVIN HARVICK WHO’S NOW IN SECOND.
THIS IS KESELOWSKI IN THE 2 AND MATT KENSETH, KESELOWSKI LOSING
GROUND ON THE PIT STOP CYCLE AND KENSETH GAINING A GOOD BIT.
GOT PINCHED IN THERE.>>YEAH, GOT IN A BAD SPOT RIGHT
THERE. YOU SEE ALL OF THE MOMENTUM HE
LOST RIGHT THEN.>>OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE,
OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE. WAY HIGH.
>>BRAD STARTED THE CYCLE OF PIT STOPS IN SIXTH POSITION, NOW
FINDS HIMSELF BACK IN 12th.>>YEAH, THEY WERE A LITTLE SLOW
ON THEIR STOP AND THEN THAT — WHAT HE LOST THERE, ALSO COST
HIM QUITE A BIT.>>PLUS, HE WAS ONE OF THE LAST
ONES TO PIT IN THE CYCLE.>>SO, KESELOWSKI TRYING TO MAKE
UP SOME LOST GROUND HERE AFTER THE PIT STOP CYCLE IS FINISHED.
JAMIE McMURRAY OUT IN FRONT. KANSAS-BASED SPONSOR IN CESSNA
AND A JOPLIN, MISSOURI-BASED DRIVER.
>>>THE HOLLYWOOD CASINO 400 AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY IN KANSAS CITY,
KANSAS, BACK LIVE WITH A REMINDER TO CHECK NASCAR.COM/RACEBUDDY FOR
ENHANCED RACE COVERAGE FROM HERE AT THE TRACK.
SO McMURRAY IS THE RACE LEADER. 12 DRIVERS, PURSUING THE
CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS IS FIRST RACE OF THE
THREE-RACE IN THE CONTENDER ROUND.
MOST OF THEM ARE FARING PRETTY WELL.
DENNY HAMLIN STRUGGLING. MATT KENSETH MADE UP A GOOD BIT
OF GROUND IN THE FIRST ROUND OF PIT STOPS.
WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE CHIP GANASSI RACING TEAM FOR A
WHILE. UPTICK PERFORMANCE BETWEEN JAMIE
McMURRAY AND PURSUING WHAT WOULD BE HIS FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR.
HE WON TALLADEGA LAST FALL. JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AWAY.
NO SURPRISE THEY HAVE BEEN USING THAT THEME FOR A WHILE.
>>NO SURPRISE WHATSOEVER. THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN POSITION
AND YOU CONTINUE TO DO THAT, MAKE YOUR CARS FAST AND THEN YOU
CAN FIND YOURSELF IN VICTORY LANE BEFORE VERY LONG.
JAMIE, IT COULD BE TODAY.>>IT COULD BE, BUT ALSO THERE
COULD BE A PROBLEM LOOMING FOR OUR RACE LEADER, McMURRAY RIGHT
AFTER THAT PIT STOP, SAYS I HAVE A WEIRD SOUND IN THIS LIKE A
TIRE IS FALLING. SOMETHING IS VIBRATING IN HERE.
REMEMBER THE RACE HERE IN THE SPRING, JAMIE BLEW A RIGHT FRONT
TIRE, SO THEY’RE EXTRA SENSITIVE KEEPING AN EYE AND AN EAR ON THE
SOUNDS IN THE CAR.>>IT SEEMS LIKE THIS TIRE,
ESPECIALLY, HAS A VIBRATION OR A NOISE, WE HEARD PEOPLE
COMPLAINING ABOUT IT, THIS IS THE SAME TIRE WE RUN AT
MICHIGAN, WE HEARD SOME OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND COMMENTS
FROM DRIVERS AT THAT RACE. I’M NOT SURE WHAT IT IS.
IT GIVES DRIVERS A FUNNY FEELING.
THEY FEEL SOMETHING DIFFERENT. I’M NOT SURE IF IT’S REAL
PROBLEM. IT’S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT IT
CONCERNS YOU BECAUSE IT’S DIFFERENT.
>>WHEN YOU’RE GOING 190 MILES INTO A CORNER, I WOULD SAY IT
WOULD GIVE YOU CONCERN ESPECIALLY THE LAST TIME HERE IT
GAVE YOU A PROBLEM.>>YEAH, THE SPEEDS THAT THEY’RE
OBVIOUSLY RUNNING.>>CLINT BOWYER ABOUT TO BE
OVERTAKEN BY THE RACE LEADER. CLINT BOWYER, HE AND HIS WIFE
LAURA HAVING THEIR FIRST CHILD. BABY SON CASH, BORN ON
WEDNESDAY, BOWYER SAID HE WAS WALKING AROUND THE DELIVERY
ROOM, HIGH-FIVING PEOPLE. NOT SURPRISE ZMRG AND TALKING TO
EVERYBODY.>>JOEY LOGANO TRYING TO PASS
DALE EARNHARDT JR. FOR THIRD PLACE IN AND AROUND SOME LAP
CARS.>>THE LAP CARS ARE MAKING THIS
VERY INTERESTING. LOT OF THEM ARE RUNNING RIGHT IN
THE MIDDLE OF THE RACETRACK, SEE HOW THAT AFFECTS THIS RACING
THROUGHOUT THE DAY.>>I’M ALREADY SURPRISED TO SEE
JUST HOW WIDE THE RACETRACK IS. WE WERE EXPECTING THAT TO BE
CAUSING PROBLEMS. I LIKE TO SEE HOW THE
RACETRACK’S DEVELOPED.>>LOGANO FELL BACK BEFORE THE
PIT STOPS AND LOST GROUND ON THE PIT STOPS.
VINCE?>>THEY WERE TOO LOOSE TOWARD
THE END OF THAT FIRST RUN. JOEY SAID THE CAR HAS QUITE
NICELY TO THE ADJUSTMENT. GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE FANS OF THE
22.>>SO, LOGANO RUNNING IN THIRD
POSITION FOR NOW. TRYING TO CHASE DOWN KEVIN
HARVICK FOR SECOND HERE, HARVICK IN THE 4.
AS THEY WORK SO MORE LAPPED TRAFFIC.
NOW OVER 100-MILE GREEN-FLAG RACING AT THE BEGINNING AFTER
WHAT WE SAW YESTERDAY IN NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE AND WHAT
WE HAVE SEEN THE LAST FEW RACES HERE AT KANSAS.
A LITTLE BIT OF A SURPRISE WE HAVE SEEN THIS LONG OF A
GREEN-FLAG STRETCH TO START THIS RACE.
>>I EXPECTED IT TO HAPPEN, BUT I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD TAKE
SOMEWHERE OVER 100 LAPS FOR THAT TO REALLY COME IN.
>>THERE YOU GO, AVERAGE 11 CAUTIONS IN THE LAST 4 RACES
SINCE THE REPAVING AND THE RECONFIGURATION AT KANSAS.
WE’RE A QUARTER OF A WAY THROUGH, HAVEN’T SEEN A YELLOW
FLAG YET.>>>YELLOW FLAG NUMBER ONE OUT
HERE AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY, DEBRIS IN TURN FOUR, YOU SAW THE
CLEAN-UP TRUCK OUT THERE ON THE BACKGROUND AS THE CARS COME TO
PIT ROAD FOR SERVICE. EXTENT WE’LL SEE A LOT OF
STRATEGY PLAYED HERE.>>EXPECT A LOT OF TWO-TIRE
STOPS.>>JAMIE?
>>JAMIE McMURRAY SAID HE HAD THAT VIBRATION, WHEN HE RAN DOWN
LOW IT HELPED THEM. THEY’LL TRYING TORY INFORCE THAT
PANEL. DOC.
>>DALE JUNIOR SAID THE CAR WAS A LITTLE BIT EDGY WHEN THE WEDGE
WENT IN. HE’S EYE WAY.
>>JOEY LOGANO A LITTLE TOO FREE ON EXIT, ESPECIALLY IN TRAFFIC.
FOUR-TIRE CHANGE. SLIGHT AIR PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT 4
OF KEVIN HARVICK TOOK JUST TWO.>>THERE’S THE RACE OFF PIT
ROAD. YELLOW FLAG NUMBER ONE OUT HERE
IN KANSAS.>>>TOMORROW RUSSELL WILSON AND
THE SEAHAWKS VISIT KIRK COUSINS AND THE REDSKINS FOR MONDAY
NIGHT FOOTBALL, SEATTLE/WASHINGTON AT 8:15
EASTERN ON ESPN AND WATCH ESPN ALSO, NO OTHER NIGHT IS MONDAY
NIGHT. SEAHAWKS COMING OFF THEIR BYE
WEEK AND THE REDSKINS WILL HAVE ALL THEY CAN HANDLE.
>>THEY WILL. GOT TO BE CAREFUL, TRAVELING
FROM THE WEST COAST PLAYING AT NIGHT, THAT’S TOUGH.
>>DOUBLING UP FOR THE RESTART. WITH McMURRAY THE RACE LEADER.
JOEY LOGANO LOSING SEVEN SPOTS WITH THE FOUR-TIRE CALL BY CREW
CHIEF TODD GORDON.>>EVERYONE IN FRONT OF US DID
TWO, IS THAT BASICALLY WHAT HAPPENED THERE?
>>YES. HAD YOU RIGHT THERE AT 24 LAPS.
>>LET’S GET THE EXPLANATION FROM TODD GORDON WHY FOUR
INSTEAD OF TWO LIKE MANY OTHERS.>>THERE WAS A GAP OF COUPLE
CARS BEHIND US. AT THIS POINT IN THE RACE, PLAY
IT CONSERVATIVE/AGGRESSIVE AT THE SAME POINT.
IT MAY CHANGE THE STRATEGY GOING FORWARD.
>>THANKS, TODD. ALLEN.
>>JOEY LOGANO, WHERE HE LINES UP, FREE PASS TO CLINT BOWYER.
JUSTIN ALLGAIER AND LANDON CASSILL TOOK WAVE-AROUND TO GET
BACK ON THE LEAD LAP.>>ONE CAR SLIDING SIDEWAYS.
DOWN THROUGH TRAFFIC.>>MAN.
>>IS THAT GREG BIFFLE? YES.
AND FOR THE LEAD, DALE JUNIOR, UNDERNEATH HARVICK AND McMURRAY.
>>A LOT GOING ON RIGHT THERE, THREE WIDE FOR THE LEAD AND DALE
JUNIOR COMES OUT IN FRONT AND THEN FOUR WIDE BEHIND HIM OFF
TURN FOUR, BACK IN THE PACK, STILL TRYING TO SETTLE THAT JAM
OFF OF TURN TWO.>>THAT’S HUGE.
I DON’T KNOW HOW BIFFLE SAVED THAT CAR.
HE’S UP ON TOPSIDE THERE.>>WOW.
>>COMPLETELY SIDEWAYS — LOOK AT THAT.
HE SAVED THAT CAR. LOOK AT THAT.
GREAT DRIVING AROUND HIM, TOO.>>UNBELIEVABLE.
>>BIFFLE WENT FROM SIXTH THERE ON THE RESTART ALL OF THE WAY
BACK TO 18th BUT HE DOES HAVE A CAR HE CAN CONTINUE TO WORK
WITH.>>SO, DALE JUNIOR TAKES
ADVANTAGE AND IS OUT IN FRONT, HARVICK’S SECOND, McMURRAY
THIRD. GORDON FOURTH.
MARTIN TRUEX JR. RACING FOR FIFTH WITH KASEY KAHNE.
ANOTHER SOLID DRIVE FOR THE 78 TEAM.
>>MARTIN TRUEX’S CAR DRIVES A LOT BETTER.
>>TROUBLE, CAR IN THE WALL, TURN FOUR.
KURT BUSCH.>>COMING DOWN PIT ROAD.
RIGHT FRONT.>>VERY DIFFICULT, DIFFICULT
COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR KURT BUSCH, FEW WEEKS ACTUALLY, AND THE 41
BACKUP CAR THAT HE STARTED THIS RACE IN GOES TO THE GARAGE
DAMAGED IN AN ACCIDENT. LET’S GO BACK WHILE WE WERE
WATCHING BIFFLE IN TURN NUMBER TWO, WE’LL SHOW YOU HOW DALE
JUNIOR WENT FROM THIRD TO FIRST FOR THE RACE LEAD.
>>HARVICK SLOWED UP THE TOP TWO.
LOT OF MOMENTUM FROM THAT 88.>>HE’S PRETTY SERIOUS ABOUT
TAKING THE LEAD RIGHT HERE. THIS 88 OUT FRONT.
THAT’S A NICE PASS. REALLY GOOD OPPORTUNITY THERE.
SEE RIGHT THERE. WOW.
WHAT A HARD HIT.>>GOODNESS.
>>THAT’S JUST THE WORST THING FOR A DRIVER, THERE’S NOTHING
YOU CAN DO.>>KURT WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY
TO SEE KANSAS IN HIS REARVIEW MIRROR AFTER THE WEEKEND HE’S
HAD.>>WOW, IT’S NOT BEEN FUN FOR
HIM HERE.>>SO, YELLOW FLAG, AGAIN, AFTER
WE RAN THE FIRST 100-PLUS MILES, CAUTION-FREE, WE HAVE QUICKLY
SEEN A SECOND ONE HERE, AFTER THAT HARD CRASH IN TURN FOUR FOR
KURT BUSCH. TONY STEWART GETS THE FREE PASS
AT THIS CAUTION.>>THAT CAME REALLY QUICK AFTER
A RESTART. I WOULD ASSUME HE MAYBE HAD SOME
CONTACT WITH ANOTHER CAR, MAYBE IN THAT JAM-UP WITH THE 16 OF
BIFFLE.>>ALL OF THE SAFETY INNOVATIONS
AROUND THIS SPORT OVER THE LAST 10, 12 YEARS, THOSE SAFER
BARRIERS, NOTHING HAS BEEN ANY MORE IMPORTANT TO THESE DRIVERS.
>>ARIC ALMIROLA, THE FIRST LEAD LAP CAR BACK AT 18th PLACE TO
MAKE A PIT STOP HERE.>>>BUSY WEEKEND OF RACING
CONTINUES TONIGHT. THE FINALS IN THE NHRA NATIONALS
FROM READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ON ESPN2.
NEXT WEEKEND, WE HEAD TO THE HOME OF NASCAR FOR SOME PEOPLE,
THE NASCAR NATIONWIDE AT CHARLOTTE ON FRIDAY.
ON SATURDAY THE ONLY CHASE RACE UNDER THE LIGHTS THE BANK OF
AMERICA 500 AT CHARLOTTE, JOIN US ON ABC, 7:00 EASTERN, THAT IS
SATURDAY NIGHT. BACK HERE AT KANSAS FOR CHASE
RACE NUMBER FOUR, WE WERE CAUTION-FREE FOR THE FIRST 70
LAPS, NOW IT’S REALLY GETTING INTERESTING.
HELLO TO YOU FROM INSIDE THE QUICKEN LOANS ESPN PIT STUDIO.
BRAD, YOU SAY WIND MIGHT TO BE BLAMED FOR WHAT WE’RE SEEING ON
THE TRACK.>>I DO THINK SO.
THE WINDS HERE AT KANSAS ARE REALLY, REALLY STRONG.
30, 40 MILES AN HOUR. HEADING DOWN INTO TURN ONE, TURN
TWO. THE WINDS ARE STRONG DOWN LOW.
I HIT THE’S CAUSING GUYS FITS OUT THERE.
WE TALKED ABOUT HOW HARD THE TIRES ARE, THE TRACK IS HARD TO
GET AHOLD OF.>>NOW, A FEW LAPS AGO, THERE
WAS A ROAR FROM THE CROWD THAT’S BECAUSE A CERTAIN DRIVER TOOK
THE LEAD, THAT WOULD BE DALE EARNHARDT JR. LOOKING STRONG.
>>HE IS LOOKING STRONG. WE HEARD DALE JARRETT TELL THIS
WEEKEND ON OUR CONFERENCE CALL, LOT OF DRIVERS ARE GOING TO GET
BACK INTO THIS THING BECAUSE OF THAT.
THIS IS THE MOST LAPS THAT EARNHARDT HAS LED SINCE POCONO.
>>BRAD DID YOU REALLY SAY DURING COUNTDOWN, HE’S HARDER TO
PASS THAN A KIDNEY STONE.>>YES.
>>I’M JUST CHECKING.>>THAT’S THE KIND OF WISDOM WE
BRING HERE.>>LOT OF FUN.
>>OH, A LITTLE WIGGLE OFF TURN FOUR FOR JEFF GORDON AND THEY’RE
SCATTERED AROUND HE AND McMURRAY.
>>HE WENT INTO THE WALL.>>OH, TROUBLE.
JIMMIE JOHNSON, I BELIEVE.>>HEADED FOR THE INSIDE WALL.
>>GREG BIFFLE AROUND ALSO. TROUBLE FURTHER DOWN THE
BACKSTRETCH, TWO OTHER CARS ARE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION.
JUSTIN ALLGAIER AND JOSH WISE AT THE ENTRANCE TO TURN THREE.
>>IF YOU’RE LOSING A LOT OF OIL JUST SHUT IT OFF.
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON AFTER QUALIFYING WAY BACK IN 32nd
PLACE, HAD MADE UP SOME GROUND IN THAT SECOND RUN OF THE RACE,
AND ON THE RESTART, I SAW HIM OUT THERE, THREE WIDE THE FIRST
TIME AROUND, REALLY MAKING WHAT LOOKED LIKE SOME SPEED, THEN IT
GOT BOTTLED UP ON HIM SECOND TIME AROUND OFF THAT CORNER AND
THERE’S THE RESULT.>>I THINK HE GOT A LITTLE BIT
OF HELP ON THAT ONE.>>24 AND 1 HAVING THAT ISSUE
OFF OF TURN FOUR, REALLY PUT THESE CARS TOGETHER.
>>JUSTIN ALLGAIER AND JOSH WISE CRASHING DOWN AT THE OTHER END
OF THE BACKSTRETCH AS A RESULT OF THE STACK-UP THAT OCCURRED
OFF OF TURN TWO.>>SEE, JIMMIE IN THE OUTSIDE
LANE, HE GOT TAGGED BY BIFFLE. HE DEFINITELY HIT THE
LEFT REAR
CORNER OF THE 48.>>THAT SENT JIMMIE INTO THE 51
OF JUSTIN ALLGAIER. THAT WRECK RIGHT THERE WAS —
MISJUDGED BY GREG BIFFLE. HE THOUGHT THAT HE WAS GOING TO
BE ABLE TO SLIDE IN BEHIND THE 48.
WE HAVE SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES THIS YEAR IF YOU CAN REMEMBER.
>>I JUST, ALLGAIER/JOSH WISE THING, THEY’RE CRASHING OFF OF
TURN NUMBER TWO AND IT WAS TURN THREE BEFORE HIS CAR CAME TO
REST AND THEY STILL WEREN’T DONE.
AND FOR JIMMIE JOHNSON, LITERALLY A BIG BLOW IN HIS
CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES TODAY HERE IN KANSAS.
CAUTION FLAG OUT. SHY OF THE ONE-THIRD MARK OF THE
RACE. THE SIX-TIME CHAMPION GETS THE
WORST OF IT.>>>BACK LIVE AT THE KANSAS
SPEEDWAY, WORKING CAUTION FOR THE THIRD TIME IN TODAY’S
400-MILER. OUR TELECAST PRESENTED TODAY BY
DODGE. ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT JUST
AFTER ANOTHER RESTART, WITH THE FIELD STILL BOTTLED UP, IT TURNED INTO BIG TROUBLE OFF OF
TURN TWO.>>AS THEY TRIED TO REGAIN THE
MOMENTUM, IT BOTTLES UP EVERYBODY ELSE BEHIND THEM.
>>THIS CARRIED ON FROM ONE TO TWO.
>>YOU GET CARL EDWARDS AND JIMMIE JOHNSON AND SO ON RIGHT
BEHIND THOSE OTHER GUYS AND THIS RESULTS.
>>AND I DON’T THINK — WE WATCHED IT A FEW TIMES.
IT DIDN’T LOOK LIKE JIMMIE JOHNSON HAD TO GET OUT OF
THROTTLE. A MISJUDGMENT BY GREG BIFFLE ON
THE SPEED THAT HE COULD CARRY. JUST CAUGHT THE LEFT REAR OF
JIMMIE JOHNSON.>>THEN, JUSTIN ALLGAIER SAID
FOR A WHILE, BRIAN AND JOSH WISE COLLECTED IN THE SLOWDOWN.
DOWNSTAIRS TO DAVE.>>WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON WHO
WALKED OUT, BIG HIT TO YOU, ARE YOU OKAY?
>>YEAH, I’M FINE. OBVIOUSLY A BIG HIT IN
CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS. SO WE’LL TRY TO GET THE CAR BACK
ON THE TRACK, GET SOME POINTS.>>DESCRIBE FURTHER WHAT THIS
DOES GOING FORWARD IN THE CONTENDER ROUND.
>>IT JUST MEANS WE GOT TO BE ON OUR GAME IN CHARLOTTE AND
TALLADEGA. YOU KNOW, THERE’S STILL A LOT OF
RACING LEFT, WE’LL SEE HOW THE OTHER CHASERS FARE.
SO, WE’LL DO OUR BEST TO GET ON TRACK AND CERTAINLY NEED “W”s I
ASSUME GOING FORWARD.>>AS JIMMIE SAID, THEY’LL TRY
TO GET THE CAR BACK OUT THERE.>>SO, JIMMIE DROPPING HALF A
RACE INSTANTLY BEHIND THE EIGHTH-PLACE CUT LINE THAT COMES
UP TWO RACES FROM NOW.>>GOOD NEWS FOR JIMMIE, HE’S
GOING TO CHARLOTTE NEXT WEEK WHERE HE HAS SEVEN WINS, THAT’S
GOT TO BE ENCOURAGING AND TALLADEGA.
THIS MAY BE THE FIRST DRIVER LOOKING FORWARD TO TALLADEGA.
>>SO LOADED UP FOR ANOTHER RESTART.
DALE JUNIOR LEADS FROM THE OUTSIDE LANE.
>>MARTIN TRUEX JR., IN THAT 78 RIGHT THERE, ON THE OUTSIDE,
HE HE’S — IT’S BEEN A GREAT
RACETRACK FOR MARTIN TRUEX JR. OVER THE YEARS, HE’S DONE
EVERYTHING BUT WIN HERE.>>HARVICK IS NOT GOING TO GIVE
IT UP SO EASILY.>>KYLE BUSCH, 18.
KASEY KAHNE, 5. THAT’S FIFTH AND SIXTH PLACE.
DENNY HAMLIN BEGINNING TO CREEP INTO THE PICTURE TOWARD THE
FRONT. BRAD KESELOWSKI RIGHT BEHIND.
THERE’S KYLE LARSON, IN THE 42, STEADILY MOVING FORWARD AGAIN.
>>DENNY HAMLIN HAS DONE A NICE JOB TODAY, HE STARTED WAY BACK
AFTER A BAD QUALIFYING RUN. HAS A FAST CAR, THOUGH.
>>FAST PIT CREW HAS HELPED HIM, TOO.
>>YEAH, AND A REALLY FAST CAR, AFTER FOUR, FIVE LAPS THIS 42
CAR, HE STRUGGLES A LITTLE BIT ON THE BEGINNING ON LOW AIR
PRESSURE, BUT MAN, WHEN IT COMES ALIVE IT’S THE FASTEST THING ON
THE TRACK.>>SO, THE RUNNING ORDER BEHIND
THE FIRST COUPLE REALLY JUMBLED UP BY THE JEFF GORDON/JAMIE
McMURRAY TANGLE AND SLIDE BACK INTO THE FIELD, SOME PEOPLE
SUCCESSFULLY MANEUVERING THROUGH IT.
HERE IS JOEY LOGANO TRYING TO SUCCESSFULLY MANEUVER MARTIN
TRUEX JR. FOR THIRD AND FOURTH PLACES.
>>REMEMBER, THE 22 HAS FOUR TIRES VERSUS MOSTLY OF THESE
OTHER GUYS IN FRONT OF HIM.>>LOGANO HAD THAT STUFF WITH
JIMMIE JOHNSON AND SO ON HAPPENING ALL AROUND HIM OFF OF
TURN TWO, WHEN THAT ALL STARTED TO MIX UP.
SO, LOGANO TO THIRD. TRUEX BACK TO FOURTH.
LOT OF ACTION IN THIS MIDDLE STAGE OF THE RACE.
AS WE GET LATER ON IN THE AFTERNOON, STAY TUNED FOR THE
NONSTOP COVERAGE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE RACE PRESENTEDED TO
BY SUNOCO. JUST JOINING US, 150 MILES
AMOUNT KANSAS SPEEDWAY. THE FIRST 70 LAPS OVER 100 MILES
OF THIS ONE, RAN NONSTOP TURNED GREEN FLAG.
JAMIE McMURRAY CHARGED UP THROUGH THE FIELD TO TAKE THE
FIRST SPOT. A COUPLE OF QUICK CAUTIONS, AND
THAT BIG CRASH A MINUTE AGO, HAS REALLY TURNED SOME PEOPLE’S
RUNNING ORDER AND RELATIVE TRACK POSITION INSIDE-OUT.
JEFF GORDON WHO HAS BEEN UP IN THE TOP FIVE IS WAY BACK IN THE
21st PLACE. JAMIE McMURRAY IS WAY BACK IN
10th PLACE AND HERE’S KASEY KAHNE INSIDE THE TOP FIVE, IN
FIFTH POSITION, TRYING TO GET FOURTH AWAY FROM MARTIN TRUEX
JR.>>KASEY THOUGHT THEY COULD
WINNETTER HERE OR CHARLOTTE NEXT WEEK AND MOVE THEMSELVES TO THE
NEXT ROUND.>>AT DOVER, THAT WAS A TOUGH
RACE FOR THEM BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO TRANSFER.
>>KASEY KAHNE, IF WE GET THROUGH THE FIRST ROUND TWO OF
MY BEST TRACKS ARE KANSAS AND CHARLOTTE.
THEY GOT THROUGH THE FIRST ROUND.
OF COURSE HAD THE LOOSE WHEEL AND GOT BEHIND IN PIT CYCLE,
BARELY WORKED OUT IN THEIR FAVOR, EKED THROUGH THEIR WAY
THROUGH THE CUT LINE.>>ALL WE CAN DO IS GET THE BEST
FINISH WE CAN.>>GO PASS THEM ALL.
>>THAT’S KIND OF WHAT HE DID.>>PASSING CARS.
KYLE LARSON COMING IN A HURRY.>>LARSON AROUND TRUEX, UP TO
FIFTH POSITION. LARSON STARTED THIS RACE BACK IN
18th PLACE. HEAD LINES OF THE MOMENT,
SIX-TIME CHAMP JIMMIE JOHNSON, HIS CAR BEING REBUILT AFTER A
CRASH A LITTLE WHILE AGO THAT SENT HIM TO THE GARAGE AND THE
RACE LEADER, DALE EARNHARDT JR. IN COMMAND AT KANSAS AT THE
MOMENT.>>>DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY.
JUST ACROSS THE RIVER FROM WHERE WE SIT AT THE KANSAS SPEEDWAY
AND KANSAS CITY, KANSAS, TODAY’S NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES
TELECAST PRESENTED BY DODGE AND OUR AERIAL COVERAGE PRESENTED BY
GOODYEAR. GOODYEAR, THE OFFICIAL TIRE OF
NASCAR. CAN’T ASK FOR A NICER DAY FOR A
RACE OR A BASEBALL GAME.>>WE GOT THEM BOTH HERE.
>>RIGHT NOW, THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN, THE FIRST RACE IN THE
CONTENDER ROUND OF THE CHASE ONGOING WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR.
OUT IN FRONT OF KEVIN HARVICK. SIXTH PLACE HERE, JAMIE McMURRAY
RALLYING. AFTER THE DUST-UP WITH JEFF
GORDON OFF OF TURN FOUR EARLIER THAT KICKED HIM BACK IN TRAFFIC
AND NOW TRYING TO PICK HIS WAY THROUGH THE FRONT.
>>HE’S USING THAT HIGH SIDE AND HE’S FLYING BY THESE GUYS.
>>THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN, DALE.>>IT’S BLAST.
IT’S ALWAYS FUN TO GET DOWN AROUND THE WHITE LINE.
YOU CAN GET INTO THE GAS SO EARLY AND GO HARD.
YOU CAN FEEL THE SPEED FROM THERE BETTER.
>>THEY TOOK HIS OTHER LANE — HE MOVED UP AND HE WAS ABOUT A
CAR WIDTH OFF THE WALL, BUT OTHERS GOT RUNNING THERE, SO THE
RUBBER BEING PUT DOWN THERE. NOT QUITE AS FAVORABLE.
HE MOVED UP FROM WHERE EVERYBODY ELSE IS TRYING TO GET GRIP AND
SPEED.>>McMURRAY WENT BACK TO 13th
AFTER THE SKIRMISH WITH JEFF GORDON AND HE’S PICKED HIS WAY
BACK UP AGAIN TO SIXTH POSITION. SO, LOOKING AT THE RACE SO FAR
HERE IN KANSAS, THAT LONG GREEN RUN OVER 100 MILES TO START THE
DAY, THEN THE THREE QUICK CAUTIONS SINCE AND THE HEADLINE
ON THIS ONE, JIMMIE JOHNSON AND THE HARD CRASH HAS HIS CAR BACK
IN THE GARAGE AREA BEING REBUILT.
KEVIN HARVICK HAS LED THE MOST. BRAD KESELOWSKI AND JEFF GORDON
HAVE ALSO BEEN OUT IN FRONT. 25 CARS STILL ON THE LEAD LAP.
AND THERE’S THE RACE FOR SECOND. KEVIN HARVICK, JOEY LOGANO.
>>WE MIGHT GETTING TO THE POINT THESE FOUR TIRES THAT LOGANO HAS
HIS CAR VERSUS THE OTHER GUYS MIGHT BE REALLY PAYING OFF FOR
HIM. PROBABLY AN ADVANTAGE FOR HIM.
>>ALEX BOWMAN IN THE LINE LOGANO WANTED TO USE, BUT HE WAS
STILL ABLE TO MAKE IT WORK. ARIC ALMIROLA IS OFF THE PACE.
>>YOU WANT TO TRY AND FIRE IT BACK UP?
>>YES.>>SEEMS LIKE THE MOTOR IS A
LITTLE — SOMETHING. ALL OF MY PRESSURES ARE GOOD.
I STILL HAVE OIL PRESSURE AND FUEL PRESSURE.
>>THEY HAD SUCH HIGH HOPES. SEE, THEY STARTED IN THIRD
POSITION.>>THEY CAN DO ALL OF THE THINGS
TO MAKE YOUR CAR BETTER BUT YOU HAVE TO GO RACING.
>>WE STAY UNDER THE GREEN FLAG.>>LOGANO HAS TAKEN OVER THAT
SECOND SPOT FROM KEVIN HARVICK NOW.
HAS HIS SIGHTS ON DALE EARNHARDT JR. AND THE 88.
WHO’S BEEN REALLY IMPRESSIVE TODAY.
WATCH THIS 88 TODAY. THEY’RE DOING GREAT JOB, THIS
DRIVER AND TEAM RIGHT HERE, PERFORMED EVERY WEEKEND NOW.
>>YEAH, THEY KIND OF WOKE UP AT THE RIGHT TIME, TOO, TO START
THIS ROUND. IF THEY HAPPEN TO GET A WIN, IT
WILL TAKE A LOT OF PRESSURE OFF OF THIS TEAM TO GO TO THE NEXT
ROUND.>>JOEY LOGANO, TOP FIVES IN
EACH OF THE FIRST THREE RACES IN THE CHASE.
ABOUT THE ONLY CAR I COULD TELL YOU I THOUGHT PERFORMED BETTER
IN THOSE THREE RACES WOULD HAVE BEEN KEVIN HARVICK, WHO DID SO
MUCH LEADING AND SO ON. BUT LOGANO GOT THE BETTER
RESULTS THAN HARVICK DID OUT OF MOST OF THEM.
>>HE HAS A LITTLE DAMAGE, I THINK IT CAME FROM THAT RESTART
WHERE GREG BIFFLE GOT REALLY SIDEWAYS.
LOGANO LIFTED OFF THE THROTTLE. HOW IS THE CAR, THOUGH, VINCE?
>>THEY’RE REALLY HAPPY WITH THE CAR.
IT’S INTERESTING, YOU GUYS WERE TALKING ABOUT JAMIE McMURRAY AND
HOW HIGH McMURRAY WAS RUNNING. BUT LOGANO AND HIS SPOTTER WERE
TALKING ABOUT IT, HE WAS TELLING LOGANO WHERE HE WAS RUNNING AND
HOW HE WAS MAKING TIME AND SUGGESTING JOEY GET UP THERE AND
GIVE IT A SHOT. SINCE HE’S MOVED UP AS SUGGESTED
HE’S FOUND SPEED.>>MEANWHILE BACK IN THE GARAGE,
JIMMIE JOHNSON CONTINUES TO LOOK ON AS ABOUT 20 DIFFERENT TEAM
MEMBERS GO TO WORK ON THE FRONT CLIP AND THE REAR CLIP OF THIS
CAR. JIMMIE EVEN PICKED UP A HAMMER
HIMSELF, EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. LIKE JIMMIE SAID, HE WANTS TO
GET BACK OUT AND SALVAGE AT LEAST A COUPLE OF POINTS.
REMEMBER, THIS IS THE FIRST RACE IN THE CONTENDER ROUND.
>>THEY ALL EQUIPMENT HERE. THEY’RE ALL READY TO REBUILD ANY
PART OF THE CAR THAT THEY CAN AND IT’S KIND OF LIKE ORGANIZED
CHAOS. SPECIFIC CREW MEMBERS ASSIGNED
TO FRONT END, BACK END AND SO ON.
THEN YOU GET IN THERE. THE CREW CHIEF OR THE LEADER HAS
TO DIRECT THEM THROUGH THE EFFORT OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE
PREPARED. THEY HAVE TO MAKE SURE THEY DO
IT RIGHT BECAUSE THE CAR HAS TO BE SAFE AND IT HAS TO REACH A
MINIMUM SPEED AND YOU HAVE TO GET IT RIGHT AWAY.
>>IT DEFINITELY IS A TEAM EFFORT.
WHEN WE GO BACK OUT ON THE TRACK, I WANT THIS CAR TO BE
SOLID. I DON’T WANT ANOTHER CAUTION.
THE OTHER THING IS, YOU WANT TO MAKE IT FAST ENOUGH TO KEEP UP.
>>EIGHTH PLACE CHANGING HANDS. KYLE BUSCH AROUND MARTIN TRUEX
JR.>>HEARD KYLE SAY A NUMBER OF
TIMES THIS WEEK, IF THEY COULD COME OUT OF HERE WITH A TOP TEN
THEY WOULD CONSIDER THAT AN EXCELLENT DAY.
VERY SOLID. VERY PATIENT.
YESTERDAY DURING THE NATIONWIDE RACE, HE WAS VERY PATIENT.
TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET TO THE FRONT OF THAT.
HE USED THAT SAME STRATEGY, HE COULD USE A SOLID DAY HERE.
>>HOW HARD IS IT TO ADJUST YOUR EXPECTATION?
>>YOU KNOW, IT IS THAT. AND IT IS DIFFICULT.
FOR A WINNING DRIVER LIKE THIS. BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT THINGS INTO
PERSPECTIVE. THESE THREE RACE GROUPS — HE
KNOWS IF HE CAN FINISH IN TOP TEN HERE, THAT’S GOING TO GIVE
HIS BEST SHOT, GOING ON TO CHARLOTTE AND THEN TO TALLADEGA
FOR THAT THIRD RACE. I THINK THERE’S PROBABLY MORE TO
THIS CAR RIGHT NOW. LET’S SAVE THAT FOR LATER.
THERE’S PLENTY OF TIME TO SHOW WHAT WE REALLY HAVE.
THIS MIGHT BE A SOLID TOP FIVE CAR BEFORE THIS DAY IS OVER.
>>NOT EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH TODAY’S RACE HERE AT KANSAS.
SO, KYLE BUSCH RUNNING SOLIDLY IN EIGHTH POSITION, HE’S 12
SECONDS BEHIND LEADER DALE EARNHARDT JR.
>>UH-OH, SOMETHING HAPPENED TO JUNIOR THERE.
>>HE HIT IT HARD.>>RIGHT SIDE ALL BEATEN UP ON
THE 88 CAR.>>SEE IF THAT RIGHT FRONT TIRE
IS DOWN. HE TOOK A RIGHT TURN RIGHT OFF
THE CORNER.>>DID YOU LOSE A TIRE, BUD?
>>WE’RE TAKING IT TO THE GARAGE.
NO REASON TO STOP HERE.>>HARD HIT.
WOW.>>CAN’T DRIVE IT.
TAKE IT TO THE GARAGE. IF NOT, WE’LL GET A TOW.
>>YEAH, I CAN DRIVE IT TO THE GARAGE.
>>KIND OF KNOCKED THE WIND OUT OF HIM FOR A MOMENT.
>>YOU CAN’T MUCH WORSE LUCK THAN LEADING THE RACE AND HAVE
THIS HAPPEN.>>RIGHT THERE.
YOU CAN SEE THE FLAP. FROM THE EXPLOSION OF THE TIRE.
POPPED UP.>>THIS WAS THE LAP BEFORE.
WAS THERE SOME CONTACT HERE?>>YEAH, POSSIBLY.
>>THE TIRE HE LOST WAS THE RIGHT FRONT.
>>OH, YEAH.>>HAD ANY CONTACT WITH THE
OTHER CAR? THAT’S THE ONE THING ABOUT
RUNNING HIDE, ANYTHING THAT COMES OFF OF THESE OTHER CARS
GOES UP TO TO WHICH THAT RACETRACK AND IF YOU CAN’T TO
PUSH THAT UP, THERE’S THE POSSIBILITY OF RUNNING OVER
SOMETHING.>>38 GREEN FLAG LAP —
>>ARE YOU OKAY?>>YEAH.
I’M HAPPY ABOUT THAT. I HIT THE WALL PRETTY HARD. S.
>>STILL A HARD IMPACT. SO, JOEY LOGANO BECOMES THE NEW
LEADER OF THE RACE. AND THE STORY OF THE DAY
CERTAINLY TAKES AN UNEXPECTED TWIST.
>>FOUR TIRES FOR PRETTY MUCH EVERYBODY HERE.
>>DAVE?>>KASEY KAHNE AND THE CREW AND
KYLE LARSON CREW AGREE WITH YOU, D.J., KAHNE’S CAR A LITTLE BIT
LOOSE, WEDGED A U.S.MENT. AS FOR LARSON, LITTLE TIGHT,
LATE EXIT, FOUR TIRES, NO CHANGES.
>>FOR THE 22 OF LOGANO LITTLE TOO FREE IN TRAFFIC.
FOUR-TIRE CHANGE. KEVIN HARVICK, JUST TOO LOOSE TO
RUN THE TOP, FOUR-TIRE CHANGE FOR HARVICK, AIR PRESSURE ADJUST ADJUSTMENT.
SO, HERE COMES THE RACE OFF OF PIT ROAD, NOT MUCH OF ONE.
IT’S LOGANO THE FIRST ONE OFF.>>TOP THREE HOLD THEIR
POSITIONS, MATT KENSETH WITH THE LONG STOP, TOP RIGHT OF YOUR
SCREEN AS HIS CREW WORKS ON THE FRONT OF THE 20 CAR AND
SOMEBODY’S LOST A TIRE. THAT IS AT THE TURN FOUR END OF
PIT ROAD AND IS BEING RETURNED TO THE PAUL MENARD TEAM.
IN THE MAY RACE HERE, HENDRICKS MOTORSPORTS HAD THREE OF THE TOP
FIVE FINISHES. TODAY, TWO OF THEIR CARS ARE
BACK IN THE GARAGE AFTER HARD CRASHES.
>>>WELCOME BACK TO KANSAS SPEEDWAY, BACK IN THE GARAGE,
BUSY TIMES FOR HEN RICKS MOTORSPORTS.
DALE EARNHARDT JR. LED 45 LAPS, YOU WERE LEADING AND STRAIGHT
INTO THE WALL, WHAT HAPPENED.>>GOING INTO TURN THREE THE
SURFACE OF THE TIRE UNWOUND ALL OF THE WAY ACROSS THE SURFACE
AND I DON’T KNOW — JUST THE WHOLE SURFACE OF THE TIRE
UNWOUND LIKE A STRING AND CAME OFF THE CAR AND IT POPPED OFF
THE CORNER. I FELT IT COMING APART THROUGH
THE CORNER AND THE SURFACE OF THE TIRE’S GONE.
THE WHOLE CAP CAME OFF. MUST HAVE BEEN A RECAP.
BUT I GOT TO HAND IT TO THE GUYS, THAT WAS A GREAT RACE CAR.
WE HADN’T BEEN RUNNING REALLY GOOD THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT
WE CAME IN HERE WITH A GREAT ATTITUDE WITH THIS CAR, THE CAR
WE WON POCONO BOTH TIMES, IT’S A GOOD CAR.
HOPEFULLY, WE DIDN’T HURT IT TOO BAD.
THIS IS GOING TO HURT US IN THE POINTS OBVIOUSLY.
BUT WE GOT A LOT OF RACES LEFT.>>STILL OPTIMISTIC, HAPPY ABOUT
THE WAY THEY RAN AND NOW THEY HAVE TWO MORE RACES TO MOVE ON.
>>THE RESTART, JOEY LOGANO AND KEVIN HARVICK ON THE FRONT ROW.
>>OH, MENARD, HANG ON! KEVIN HARVICK BACK IN FRONT.
SO IT’S HARVICK, LOGANO IN THE TOP FIVE W LARSON, McMURRAY AND
KASEY KAHNE.>>AUSTIN DILLON IN TOP TEN.
WATCHED HIM PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE DAY, IT SEEMS LIKE THEY’RE
GETTING THE CAR A LITTLE BIT BETTER EACH TIME FOR HIM.
>>KYLE BUSCH SPEEDING ON PIT ROAD, CAME IN EIGHTH, HAD TO GO
BACK TO 22nd ON THE RESTART. TRYING TO MAKE UP GROUND.
MATT KENSETH IN THE 20 CAR.>>LAP 80 OR SO ON THE RESTART,
HE GOT IT INTO THE BACK OF THE 22 OF LOGANO.
THE CAR WOULD NOT HANDLE. OFF THE RACETRACK.
CAME IN AND MADE TWO PIT STOPS. MUCH, MUCH BETTER NOW THAN IT
WAS ABOUT 15 LAPS AGO.>>ALL RIGHT, DOC, SO KYLE BUSCH
19th. MATT KENSETH 20th.
BEHIND THEM IN 21st IS JEFF GORDON.
THAT LOOSE TIRE FROM PIT ROAD WAS ROLLED BACK TOWARD THE PIT
BOX OF PAUL MENARD’S TEAM BUT IT BELONGED TO JEFF GORDON’S TEAM,
PITTING ONE SPOT IN FRONT OF THEM AND JEFF HAD TO GO ALL OF
THE WAY BACK TO THE END OF THE LINE FOR THE RESTART.
WATCH THE BACK END OF THIS 24 CAR HERE.
>>IT LOOKED LIKE THE CREW MEMBER OF THE 27 COULD HAVE
HELPED OUT A LITTLE BIT, BUT HE DIDN’T.
>>WHEN THE TIRE CARRIER TRIES TO RETRIEVE IT, WATCH HIM TRIP
OVER THE AIR HOSE.>>OH, MY.
>>AND THE TIRE KEPT ROLLING.>>JUST NOT OUR DAY.
>>IT AIN’T OVER YET. JUST KEEP FIGHTING UNTIL THE
END. WE GOT TO MEET THE CHALLENGE
HERE.>>THE SPOTTER TALKING TO JEFF
GORDON AND A VERY GOOD PERSPECTIVE THERE, A LONG WAY TO
GO. JOEY LOGANO TRYING TO GET BACK
AROUND KEVIN HARVICK FOR THE RACE LEAD.
>>THAT LAST RUN OF 22 LOOKED STRONG.
MAYBE IT WITH US THE FOUR TIRES HE TOOK ON.
>>THE GOOD THING ABOUT PUTTING FOUR TIRES ON, YOU CAN MAKE
ADJUSTMENTS TO THAT. YOU DON’T HAVE TO WONDER, WAS IT
THE TWO TIRES THAT MADE THE CAR DO THIS?
THEY HAVE IT HANDLING THE WAY JOEY LOGANO WANTS IT TO.
>>SO, AS THE RACE CROSSES ITS HALFWAY POINT, JOEY LOGANO IS
BACK, AGAIN N THE RACE LEAD. VINCE?
>>WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THOSE TWO TIRES VERSUS THE FOURS TIRES
EARLY ON IN THAT 22, TODD GORDON TOLD ME THIS MORNING HE SAID WE
LIKE THE FOUR TIRES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE HE SAID THAT MAKES US
MORE ON OFFENSE. THAN TWO TIRES AND DEFENSE.
HE SAID LOOK FOR US TO MAKE FOUR-TIRE CHANGE WHILE OTHERS GO
TWO. THEY MADE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT.
LOGANO SAID I LIKE WHAT I’VE GOT TO WORK WITH RIGHT NOW.
>>TODD GORDON IN THE GARAGE THIS MORNING, HE SAID — I ASKED
HIM ABOUT WHAT THE CAR TODAY, HE SAID MY THEORY TODAY IS TIGHT IS
RIGHT. AS LONG AS OUR CAR STAYS TIGHT
WE’LL BE GOOD.>>A CREW CHIEF AFTER MY OWN
HEART.>>KYLE LARSON, THIRD AND
CLOSING. AT THE HALFWAY POINT HERE AT
KANSAS CITY, IT’S JOEY LOGANO OUT IN FRONT.
>>>BACK LIVE AT KANSAS, LOGANO CONTINUES TO LEAD TODAY’S NASCAR
SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE, TELECAST PRESENTED BY DODGE.
THERE’S YOUR SECOND-PLACE DRIVER, LARSON, THE BIGGEST
MOVER IN TODAY’S RACE. KYLE STARTED BACK AT 18th PLACE
AND HE’S UP TO SECOND RIGHT NOW. STAY CONNECTED TO THE CHASE TO
THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP WITH SPRINT.
LEARN MORE AT SPRINT.COM/DATASHARE.
MORE ON KYLE LARSON FROM DAVE.>>ALLEN, HE WAS ALSO A BIG
MORPH AFTER LAP 72 PIT STOP, THE TEAM HAD TO PUSH THE CAR OUT AND
HE LOST SEVEN SPOTS, EVER SINCE THEN, HE’S BEEN GOING FORWARD.
THE CREW CHIEF SAID WE HEARD FROM THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST
THIS MORNING. THEY SAID, WE WERE SO LOOSE IN
THE MAY RACE, WE WERE GOING TO MAKE HIM TIGHT NO MATTER WHAT
AND SO FAR THE CAR HAS BEEN VERY, VERY GOOD FOR LARSON.
>>I’M WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE THE EBENEZER SCROOGE
REFERENCE, COME ON.>>HE MIGHT CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER
HERE THIS AFTERNOON. FIRST CUP VICTORY.
>>SURE WOULD BE A LOT OF FUN TO WATCH.
>>THE TEAM WAS REAL LOOSE THIS MORNING, GOING THROUGH, I SAID,
IS TODAY THE DAY? THEY SAID, YEAH.
>>24-YEAR-OLD JOEY LOGANO LEADING 22-YEAR-OLD KYLE LARSON,
SECOND, YOUTH IS SERVED AT THIS POINT OF THE RACE AT KANSAS
TODAY. NOT BEING SERVED WELL ARE
CIRCUMSTANCES AROUND DENNY HAMLIN INSIDE THAT 11 CAR.
JAMIE?>>WELL, THE DAY WAS LOOKING UP
FOR DENNY HAMLIN, HE GAINED 13 POSITIONS, BUT THIS WAS ON HIS
RADIO JUST ABOUT TWO MINUTES.>>CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE
DASH.>>TURN OFF ALL OF YOUR SWITCHES
AND YOUR FANS.>>STILL SMOKING.
>>MOST RECENTLY SAYING OKAY, THERE MAY NOT BE A FIRE NOW BUT
THERE’S STILL SMOKE AND I CAN SMELL IT.
HE’S TELLING HIM TO CHECK ALL OF HIS GAUGES ONE AT A TIME.
HE’S GOING TO STAY OUT THERE UNTIL EVERYTHING GOES TO KAPUT.
>>I’M GOING TO GUESS, NOT HAVING DRIVEN ONE OF THESE RACE
CARS BEFORE, IF YOU SEE SPARKS OR SOMETHING UNDER THE DASH —
>>IT’S RATHER UNSETTLING AS A DRIVER.
YOU CAN’T SEE UP UNDERNEATH THERE.
YOU HAVE TO THINK OF SOME ELECTRICAL SITUATION.
>>IT’S DISTRACTING FOR THE DRIVER.
YOU WONDER HOW IS IT GOING TO FARE THE REST OF THE WAY.
>>DENNY RUNNING IN 12th POSITION.
AT THE MOMENT. REMEMBER, HE STARTED BACK IN
25th AND STILL GOT THE YELLOW BANNER ACROSS HIS CAR, 1 OF 12
TRYING TO MAKE IT PAST THIS CONTENDER ROUND.
117 LAPS REMAINING. JOEY LOGANO THE RACE LEADER AND
WE GO NASCAR NONSTOP, TODAY PRESENTED BY SUNOCO.
>>>THE HOLLYWOOD CASINO 400 FOR THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES AT
THE KANSAS SPEEDWAY IN KANSAS CITY, KANSAS.
A REMINDER YOU CAN GO TO NASCAR.COM FOR THE LATEST
INFORMATION. A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO THAN HE
IS AT THIS MOMENT. LARSON APPEARING TO BE ON THE
ROLL HERE AT THIS MIDDLE STAGE OF THE RACE.
>>WATCH THIS 42 CAR YESTERDAY IN PRACTICE, IT’S REALLY
IMPRESSED WITH WHAT I WAS SEEING, GOOD SPEED IN THE CAR,
IT HELD ON FOR A LONG TIME WITH GOOD SPEED.
AT TIMES, HE WOULD GET UP OVER THE 29-SECOND BRACKET AND HE
COME BACK AND RUN A BETTER LAP. REALLY PAYING OFF FOR HIM HERE.
THE PACE HAS SLOWED DOWN FROM YESTERDAY’S PRACTICE.
IT’S STILL KIND OF RELEVANT AS TO WHAT HE’S DOING AND
CONTINUING THAT SPEED.>>REED SORENSON SLID OFF OF
TURN TWO BETWEEN THESE TWO. BUT EVERYBODY HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO
MAKE IT WORK. JIMMIE JOHNSON, YOU SAW HIM COME
BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE. HE WAS 68 LAPS DOWN OF THE RACE
LEADER. IN 40th PLACE.
HE HAS TO COME BACK FOR A PASS-THROUGH PENALTY ON THE PIT
LANE NOW. SO, IT’S BEEN A LITTLE BIT
SLOWLY RE-ESTABLISHING THINGS FOR THE 48 CAR.
>>HE JUST PULLED BACK OUT ON THE RACETRACK.
MAYBE HE WAS GOING LITTLE FAST GOING TO THE PIT ROAD OR NOT.
NOT MUCH CONSEQUENCE TO THAT PENALTY.
>>YOUR CAR HAS BEEN WRECKED. YOU HAVE TO GET BACK IN IT.
THEY SPENT A WHILE REBUILDING IT.
>>HORRIBLE.>>BRAD KESELOWSKI INTO THE
WALL.>>WE BLEW A RIGHT FRONT OR
SOMETHING, GUYS.>>ANOTHER ONE.
>>BLUE RIGHT FRONT.>>RIGHT HERE, IT’S NOT GOOD BUT
NOT AWFUL.>>HE WAS RUNNING IN FIFTH
PLACE.>>OH, YEAH, ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE
THE 88 CAR, JUST A DIFFERENT SPOT ON THE TRACK.
>>OUTSIDE. HOLD ON.
NO.>>THAT LOOKS LIKE A MESS,
VINCE.>>CERTAINLY IS, YOU KNOW THE
INTERESTING THING, GUYS, RIGHT BEFORE THAT RIGHT FRONT WENT, HE
RADIOED INTO HIS CREW CHIEF AND SAID MY EXIT IS PERFECT.
I FEEL LIKE MY ENTRY HAS GOTTEN WORSE BUT THE EXIT IS PERFECT.
I DON’T THINK THEY GOT ANY INDICATION AT ALL THEY HAD A
PROBLEM BEFORE THAT RIGHT FRONT WENT.
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE ON
THE RIGHT FRONT.
>>HERE COME THE LEADERS, DAVE.>>KYLE LARSON AND KASEY KAHNE
ON PIT ROAD. LARSON’S CREW HAS TALKED ABOUT A
FOUR-TIRE CHANGE AND JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A CHANGE FOR A LOW
GRIP SITUATION, HE’S BOTH TIGHT AND LOOSE.
KAHNE ONLY TOOK TWO TIRES. VINCE?
>>THE 22 OF JOEY LOGANO SAYS IT JUST TAKES OFF A LITTLE BIT TOO
TIGHT AND THEN IT’S TOO FREE IN AND OFF.
THEY’LL MAKE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT AND A FOUR-TIRE
CHANGE. ALSO A FOUR-TIRE CHANGE FOR THE
4 CAR OF KEVIN HARVICK. TRACK BAR GOES UP AND SUNOCO
FUEL IN THERE AS WELL.>>INTERESTING CALL BY KENNY
FRANCIS. RIGHT SIDES ONLY FOR KASEY
KAHNE. AND THE YELLOW FLAG WAVING FOR
THE FIFTH TIME HERE IN KANSAS
CITY. MM
MM>>>WELL, WE WERE EXPECTING A
LITTLE BIT OF DRAMA TODAY AT KANSAS WITH 104 TO GO, THIS IS
AFTER ALL, RACE TWO OF ROUND TWO OF THE CHASE.
LET’S GET YOU CAUGHT UP ON WHAT’S HAPPENED SO FAR.
CHASE CONTENDER TROUBLES STARTING.
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON COMING OFF TURN TWO AND GREG BIFFLE GETS
INTO THE BACK OF HIM. THEY BOTH WRECK.
BIG DAMAGE ON JIMMIE JOHNSON’S CAR.
HE’S BACK ON THE TRACK RIGHT NOW, HE’S SEVERAL LAPS DOWN.
73 LAPS OFF THE PACE. BAD DAY FOR JOHNSON.
>>ANOTHER BAD DAY FOR DALE EARNHARDT JR.
>>YEAH, DALE EARNHARDT JR. LED 45 LAPS, HAD A STRONG RACE CAR,
WE HEARD DRIVERS TALKING PRERACE THROUGHOUT THE RACE ABOUT TIRES.
JUNIOR HITS THE WALL LEADING RIGHT FRONT TIRE ISSUES FOR BRAD
KESELOWSKI. ON LAP 160, HIT THE WALL.
>>HE REPORTED HIS CAR’S REALLY DOING GREAT, HANDLING
WONDERFULLY AND THEN BAM. RIGHT INTO THE WALL AND HE HAS
SOME MAJOR REPAIRS GOING ON RIGHT NOW.
>>ALLEN?>>LINED UP FOR A RESTART HERE.
KASEY KAHNE IS THE NEW LEADER. THEY CHANGED JUST RIGHT FRONT
TIRES.>>KAHNE UP ABLE TO GET GOING.
REALLY SPINNING THE TIRES THERE. YOU CAN SEE THE ADVANTAGE FOR
LOGANO AND HARVICK ON THE INSIDE.
>>FOUR WIDE INTO TURN ONE THERE.
>>MARTIN GOT PINNED BEHIND THAT 5 CAR ON THAT RESTART.
TRYING TO FIND ROOM.>>RYAN NEWMAN AROUND THE
BOTTOM. JOEY LOGANO BACK IN THE RACE
LEADER WITH KEVIN HARVICK PURSUING HIM.
>>TWO TIRES IS NOT A BAD THING WHEN YOU HAVE OTHERS DOING THE
SAME THING. RACING AGAINST FOUR, NOT GOING
TO DO WELL.>>KEVIN’S GOT A RUN.
AND HE’S THROUGH. SO HARVICK FIRST, LOGANO SECOND,
TRUEX THIRD, LARSON FOURTH. SIDE BY SIDE FOR FIFTH.
NEWMAN AND KANNE. AND KAHNE.
>>KAHNE REALLY SLIPPED UP GOING OFF OF TURN TWO LAST TIME.
ABLE TO GIVE NEWMAN A BIG MOVE.>>UP FRONT, LOGANO WITH ANOTHER
RALLY, BACK AROUND HARVICK.>>I’LL SEE YOUR LAP AND RAISE
YOU ONE. THE TOP THREE BEFORE THE PIT
STOPS NOW BACK IN TOP THREE POSITIONS AFTER THE PIT STOP.
ALTHOUGH THE ORDER SHUFFLED UP A LITTLE BIT.
>>IT TAKES A COUPLE OF LAPS, IF YOU’RE COMMITTED TO THAT HIGH
LINE, WHERE YOU CAN MAKE SPEED UP THERE.
PROBABLY THAT’S WHAT THAT WAS ABOUT WITH LOGANO.
IF YOU CAN RUN UP THERE, GENERALLY YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF
THE TIRES AND ESPECIALLY THAT RIGHT FRONT ISSUE A LITTLE BIT
BETTER THAN IF YOU’RE TRYING TO GO AROUND THE BOTTOM HAVING TO
PUT A LITTLE BIT MORE STEERING WHEEL INTO IT.
>>SO, 21 CARS ON THE LEAD LAP, LANDON CASSILL GOT THE FREE PASS
AT THE CAUTION FOR THE BRAD KESELOWSKI ISSUE AND JOEY
LOGANO, ONCE AGAIN, THE RACE LEADER.
VINCE?>>LOGANO TOOK OFF EVEN TIGHTER
THIS RUN, REMEMBER THAT WAS HIS COMPLAINT FROM THE PREVIOUS RUN
AS WELL, THEY DID MAKE A SLIGHTED A JUSTMEN THEY’LL
LIKELY ADJUST THAT. THEY ASSURED LOGANO THAT HIS
RIGHT FRONT TIRES HAVE LOOKED ALL RACE LONG.
HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT KESELOWSKI, BUT THEY TOLD HIM
HIS RIGHT FRONT LOOKS GREAT.>>YOU WANT TO MAKE THAT DRIVER
FEEL LIKE, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING’S OKAY.
I WOULD BE A LITTLE CONCERNED AFTER SEEING THAT 2 CAR BLOW
THAT RIGHT FRONT. WE HAVE SEEN AT LEAST THREE
FAILURES ON THAT RIGHT FRONT CORNER.
>>WANT TO EXPLORE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON IN A
MINUTE. RYAN NEWMAN AND KASEY KAHNE FOR
THIRD PLACE. 95 LAPS TO GO.
IN RACE ONE OF THE CONTENDER ROUND OF THE CHASE.
WE HAVE HAD SOME EXPLAINABLE EXCLAMATION POINTS IN THIS ONE
SO FAR.>>>JOEY LOGANO LEADS THIS RACE
FOR SECOND PLACE BETWEEN KEVIN HARVICK AND KYLE LARSON.
WITH NOW 89 LAPS TO GO. HERE TODAY AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY.
ESPN’S ALL IN FOR COVERAGE OF THE WORLD SERIES OF POKER, THE
BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD PUT IT ON THE LINE, THE WORLD SERIES OF
POKER TELECAST PRESENTED BY ON ESPN.
>>>WE HAVE HAD SOME AT KANSAS CITY FOR WHOM THE CHIPS ARE
DOWN.>>THEY’RE DEFINITELY HAVE TO GO
ALL-IN THESE NEXT COUPLE OF RACES.
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON, DALE EARNHARDT JR., BRAD KESELOWSKI.
HERE’S THAT RACE FOR SECOND PLACE STILL.
>>NOT GOING TO BE MUCH OF RACE AT THIS POINT, KEVIN HARVICK
REALIZING THAT 42 IS A LITTLE FASTER AT THIS POINT IN TIME.
>>KYLE LARSON UP TO THE NUMBER TWO SPOT.
TALK ABOUT THIS TIRE SITUATION, DALE JUNIOR AND BRAD KESELOWSKI,
WE BOTH SAW WITH RIGHT FRONTS, VERY VISIBLY GOING DOWN, BOTH
HAD VERY FAST RACE CARS AS JUNIOR COMES BACK OUT FROM THE
GARAGE AREA AND REJOINS THE RACE BY THE WAY, 57 LAPS DOWN, IN
39th PLACE. THEORIES.
I KNOW WE’RE UP HERE IN THE BOOTH.
THEORIES ON WHAT WE MIGHT BE SEEING.
WE EXPECTED CRASHES AND YELLOW FLAGS TODAY.
>>I THINK THE ONE 24I7K FROM A DRIVER’S STANDPOINT THAT YOU
LOOK AT, JUST THINKING ABOUT WHAT MAY BE HAPPENING.
A TUNING TOOL THAT THEY HAVE THE CAMERA IN THE RIGHT FRONT.
WE TALKED ABOUT HOW HARD THESE TIRES ARE NEEDING TO GET SOME
GRIP, MAKE THE CAR TURNING A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
>>WELL, I MEAN, THERE’S A PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE TO PLAYING
WITH THE RIGHT FRONT CAMERA, IT DOES COME WITH SOME RISK.
I DIDN’T REALIZE THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE.
SOME OF THE CREW CHIEFS THIS MORNING SAID, HAD SOME OF THE
HIGHEST LOADS IN THE RIGHT FRONT BECAUSE OF THE SPEEDS.
THE ONE THING THAT YOU CAN’T REALLY CHANGE IT DURING THE
RACE. THE ONE THING THAT THEY CAN DO
IS TO KEEP THEIR CARS AS FREE AS THEY CAN AND STILL BE FAST
ENOUGH. TRY TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE
PRESSURE OFF OF THE RIGHT FRONTS.
WE HEARD JOEY LOGANO SAY THIS IS THE TIGHTEST HE’S BEEN BUT HE’S
FAST.>>IF YOU’RE BEHIND THE WHEEL,
CREW CHIEF ON TOP OF THE BOX AND YOU HAVE SEEN THIS GOING ON,
DOES IT CHANGE YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS, HOW YOU DRIVE, HOW YOU
ADJUST ON THE CAR AS THE RACE GOES FORWARD?
>>DEFINITELY CHANGES MY PERSPECTIVE.
I WOULD TALK TO THE DRIVER AND SAY, HEY, LOOK, I WANT TO KNOW
HOW TIGHT ARE YOU? MAYBE TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF
PRESSURE OFF THE RIGHT FRONT.>>AND AS A DRIVER, I WANT TO
KNOW JUST HOW BAD IS MY TIRE, GIVE ME THE REAL INFORMATION
THERE AND DO I NEED TO ADJUST THAT?
YES. THEN I’M GOING TO CHANGE THE WAY
I ATTACK THIS RACETRACK. THE QUESTION YOU TALKED ABOUT
THE HIGHER LOADS HERE, THIS HAS PROGRESSIVE BANKING, DOES THAT
GO UP? WE SEE THEM RUNNING HIGH.
DOES THAT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON IT?>>THE DRIVER CAN CHANGE THE WAY
HE DRIVES THE CAR IN STYLE. I DON’T THINK YOU WOULD HAVE
SEEN ANY VISIBLE SIGNS OF PROBLEMS.
THAT’S THE ISSUE. THEY LOOK REALLY GREAT UNTIL
THEY NOT.>>CONTINUING TO RALLY FROM THAT
TIRE ROLLED AWAY FROM HIS CAR ON THAT PIT STOP, HE LOST TRACK
POSITION EARLIER WHEN HE HAD TO MAKE A PIT STOP OUT OF SEQUENCE
WITH SOME OF THE OTHERS WHEN HE AND JAMIE McMURRAY HAD A LITTLE
DUST JUP OFF OF TURN NUMBER FOUR.
>>GORDON AND KYLE BUSCH HAVE MADE THEIR WAY BACK INSIDE THE
TOP TEN NOW. NICE RALLY FOR THEM.
>>KASEY KAHNE HANGING ON THIS 5 CAR WITH THOSE JUST TWO TIRES HE
GOT.>>ACTUALLY GAINING A POSITION
THERE BY PASSING MARTIN TRUEX JR. FOR FIFTH SPOT.
>>SO STILL 80 LAPS TO GO IN THIS ONE.
JOEY LOGANO HAS BUILT A THREE-SECOND LEAD ON KYLE LARSON
THE SECOND-PLACE CAR. 21 ON IF LEAD LAP.
AND ALL OF US WONDERING, WHAT’S THE NEXT SHOE TO DROP?
HERE IN THIS ONE AT KANSAS.>>>GOOD TO SEOEY GASE CLIMB
FROM HIS CAR. UNDER CAUTION FOR THE SIXTH TIME
IN THIS ONE TODAY AT KANSAS. GASE THE YOUNG 21-YEAR-OLD, JUST
MAKING HIS SECOND NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES START.
JOEY THE LAST TWO SEASONS IN THE NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES.
>>HE MIGHT HAVE HAD A LEFT REAR TIRE THAT WENT DOWN.
>>THE WAY HE WAS SLOWING UP GOING INTO THE CORNER, IT TURNED
AROUND ON HIM LIKE THAT.>>JEFF GOURD AKRON DID A GREAT
JOB OF DODGING THAT.>>PIT ROAD CLOSED FOR THE
MOMENT WHILE THEY ATTEND TO THAT SCENE AND NOW PIT ROAD IS GOING
TO BE OPEN AND WE’LL SEE ALL OF THE LEADERS IN.
30 LAPS SINCE THEY LAST PITTED.>>THAT’S WHAT I SAW OUT OF THE
5 CAR, TWO-TIRE STOP. I THINK IT MIGHT GO FOR FOUR.
>>KASEY KAHNE WAS IN TOP FIVE WITH THAT STRATEGY.
>>WHAT SCARES YOU HAVE THE RESTART.
>>HERE COME THE LEADERS. DAVE?
>>KYLE LARSON RUNS IN SECOND, THEY’LL GO WITH RIGHT-SIDE TIRES
THIS TIME, SUNOCO FUEL, A LITTLE ADJUSTMENT TO ACCOMMODATE THAT
TWO-TIRE STOP.>>RYAN NEWMAN, FOUR TIRES, NO
CHANGES. VINCE?
>>THE 22 OF JOEY LOGANO A TICK LOOSE IN TRAFFIC, HE’LL GO HALF
ROUND DOWN ON THE LEFT REAR, FOUR-TIRE CHANGE FOR KEVIN
HARVICK, RIGHT SIDES ONLY FOR HARVICK, STILL A LITTLE BIT TOO
FREE.>>IT LOOKS LIKE WE GOT THREE OF
THEM THAT WENT WITH THE TWO-TIRE CHANGE.
>>IF YOUR FREE THOSE RIGHT SIDES COULD TIGHTEN YOU UP A
LITTLE BIT.>>SO, THE NEW LEADER IN THIS
ONE WILL BE KEVIN HARVICK AS THEY CONTINUE TO WORK ON BRAD
KESELOWSKI’S CAR BACK IN THE GARAGE.
>>>DOUBLED UP FOR THE RESTART HERE AT KANSAS.
A QUICK MOMENT TO UPDATE YOU ON THE DRIVER WHO’S LED THE MOST
LAPS TODAY BROUGHT TO YOU BY SPRINT.

>>AND WITH CREW CHIEF TODD GORDON, YOU STUCK WITH THE FOUR
TIRES ALL DAY LONG, YOU DID THERE, TOUCH ON THAT, PLUS DID
YOU GET ALL OF THE FUEL IN AS YOU HOPED TO ON THAT LAST STOP.
>>A HALF-GALLON SHORT. WE’RE FINE WITH WHERE WE NEED TO
BE AND WE NEED TO TAKE FOUR THERE TO SET US UP FOR A
TWO-TIRE CHANGE. IT’S A ONE-CAN STOP FROM HERE.
>>THANK YOU, TODD. ALLEN?
>>SO THE FRONT TWO IN FRONT OF LOGANO AND HARVICK TAKING RIGHT
TIRES.>>RYAN NEWMAN LOOKING FOR A
SPOT ON KYLE LARSON, THIS WILL BE THIRD PLACE.
>>HE’S BEEN REALLY SOLID. TALKING TO RYAN THE OTHER DAY,
YOU KNOW THEY CERTAINLY WANT TO WIN, BUT HE FELT LIKE THEY HAVE
THE TEAM TO POINT THEIR WAY INTO AT LEAST THE NEXT ROUND HE FEELS
LIKE THEY’RE GETTING BETTER WITH EACH RACE.
THEY COULD FIND THEMSELVES IN VICTORY LANE BEFORE THIS RACE IS
OVER.>>TALKING TO ERIC THE
COMPETITION DIRECTOR — WE SEE A LEAD CHANGE.
LOGANO AROUND THE 4 CAR OF KEVIN HARVICK.
THEY FELT LIKE THEY FOUND SOME THINGS THAT MIGHT MAKE THEM MORE COMPETITIVE.
>>FOUR FRESH TIRES ON THE LOGANO STOP AND HE GOES BACK TO
THE NUMBER ONE SPOT. WE HAVE SEEN THIS THE LAST
COUPLE OF RESTARTS. 22 AND 4, KIND OF SWAPPING BACK
AND FORTH.>>LARSON TAKES A LITTLE WHILE
TO GET GOING. YOU CAN SEE IT DOESN’T TAKE LONG
TO GET GOING. I REALLY LIKE THE STRATEGY OF
THE 22 RIGHT THERE.>>SO, THE THIRD OF THE
CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVERS TO HAVE TROUBLES TODAY, BRAD KESELOWSKI
HAS JUST COME OUT OF THE GARAGE AREA.
HE’S 37 LAPS DOWN IN 37th PLACE. LARSON AROUND NEWMAN FOR THIRD
PLACE.>>THE THING THAT I CAN SEE THAT
MIGHT COST LARSON A CHANCE AT WINNING THIS RACE, HE LOSES
TOUCH WITH THE LEADER AND JOEY LOGANO AND CAN’T RUN HIM DOWN
BEFORE THEY GET THROUGH A RUN.>>JEFF GORDON, 24, MARCOS
AMBROSE 9. PAUL MENARD, 27.
THAT’S ALL FOR POSITION. AND JUST A QUICK MENTION THAT
RICK J STENHOUSE GOT THE FREE PASS AT THE LAST CAUTION, BACK
ON THE LEAD LAP. 22 CARS IN TOTAL.
LET’S TALK MORE ABOUT KYLE LARSON AS HE TRIES TO GET SECOND
PLACE FROM KEVIN HARVICK. DAVE?
>>GOING TO THE HIGH SIDE AS HE HAS BEEN DOING.
HERE GOES LARSON, HE’S GOING TO MAKE THAT PASS.
ASKED THEM IF HE WAS HAVING ANY TIRE ISSUES?
THEY HAD NO ISSUES ALL DAY LONG WITH TIRES.
CHRIS SAID HE DOESN’T HAVE ANY CONCERNS.
WE’LL SEE WHAT HE DOZEN THIS FINAL RUN AS LARSON MOVES
FORWARD.>>YOU SEE THE GAP ALL OF THE
WAY UP TO JOEY LOGANO NOW GETTING GOING.
THEY’RE HOPING FOR A LONG GREEN FLAG RUN UNTIL THE END OF THIS
ONE.>>YOU WOULD THINK THAT WOULD
SET THEM UP AND PUT THEM IN A REALLY, REALLY GOOD SPOT.
>>IT WILL TAKE A LOT TO BEAT THIS 22 TEAM.
>>I THINK JUST A GOOD DECISION WE HAVE SEEN FROM TODD GORDON IS
GOING TO PAY OFF FOR THEM.>>REALLY BEING GREAT OVER THE
LAST ALMOST TWO YEARS NOW, WATCHING TODD GORDON AND JOEY
LOGANO COMING TOGETHER AS CREW CHIEF/DRIVER, CHALLENGING EACH
OTHER TO MAKE THE CAR FASTER.>>11th PLACE HERE.
3 AUSTIN DILLON. BEHIND HIM CLINT BOWYER AND CARL
EDWARDS FOR 13th AND 14th.>>AUSTIN HAD A SOLID DAY IN
THAT 3 CAR, HE LOST A FEW SPOTS THERE ON THAT RESTART BUT NOW
GOING BACK FORWARD.>>SO, AUSTIN UP AROUND AMBROSE.
INTO THE NUMBER 11 POSITION. KYLE BUSCH, 18.
KASEY KAHNE, 5. THAT’S KAHNE TAKING SIXTH PLACE
FROM KYLE.>>WE TALKED ABOUT IT, WHEN HE
GOT TO TWO TIRES, IT LOOKED LIKE HE REALLY STRUGGLES ON LOW AIR
PRESSURE TO GET UP TO SPEED AND GET GOING.
LOSES A FEW SPOTS, ONCE HIS AIR PRESSURE COMES BACK UP, HE MOVES
UP.>>I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING
WHEN I SAY HE’S HOPING FOR A LONG GREEN FLAG TO THE FINISH.
YOU’RE THINKING NO WAY, RIGHT? TO BORROW THE WORDS OF OUR
FRIEND LEE CORSO, NO SO FAST, MY FRIEND.
LAST THE GREEN FLAG THE LAST TWO RACES HERE, 19 LAPS AND 60 LAPS.
SO, WITH ALL OF THE YELLOW FEVER AT KANSAS, WE STILL HAVE HAD A
RELATIVELY LONG RUN TO THE CHECKERED.
JOEY LOGANO THE RACE LEADER.>>>THERE’S JOEY LOGANO THE RACE
LEADER HERE AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY, LOOKING DOWN ON THIS BEAUTIFUL
MILE AND HALF TRACK PROVIDED BY OUR AERIAL COVERAGE PROVIDED BY
GOODYEAR. GOODYEAR, THE OFFICIAL TIRE OF
NASCAR.>>>LOGANO’S LEAD, 1.09 SECONDS.
OVER KYLE LARSON, WHO HAS CHIPPED INTO IT.
IN THE LAST SEVERAL LAPS AROUND. STILL A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT GAP,
BUT LARSON CLOSING A LITTLE BIT. KEVIN HARVICK HAS FADED WELL
BACK IN 4.6 SECONDS BEHIND, IN THIRD PLACE.
RYAN NEWMAN AND KASEY KAHNE NOW ROUND OUT YOUR TOP FIVE.
CHECK OUT THE BIGGEST MOVERS IN THE RACE, THOSE WHO HAVE DONE A
LOT OF THE PASSING TODAY PRESENTED BY CARS.COM, ALL DRIVE
NO DRAMA. MATT KENSETH.
SURPRISE, SHOWS UP IN THE TOP TEN.
KEVIN HARVICK SLOWING. WHAT’S HAPPENING, VINCE?
>>HE’S RADIOED IN AND BELIEVES HE HAS A FLAT RIGHT FRONT.
KEEP AN EYE ON KEVIN HARVICK COMING TO PIT ROAD.
HE’S COMING NOW AND HE SAYS HE BELIEVES IT’S THE RIGHT FRONT
DOWN.>>IF HE MANAGES TO CATCH IT
WITHOUT CRASHING, THEN THAT WOULD BE A VERY SIGNIFICANT
MOMENT TO REMEMBER.>>FOUR TIRES HERE.
FOUR TIRES. FOUR TIRES.
>>IT LOOKS LIKE THE TIRE IS UP. HE MIGHT HAVE FELT — WITH THE
CORDS UNWINDING, YOU CAN HEAR FROM THE COCKPIT.
LUCKY TO CATCH IT BEFORE IT BLEW OUT.
>>CAN’T TELL FROM THERE.>>ALL RIGHT, VINCE, FOLLOW-UP
ON THAT FROM PIT ROAD. WHAT ARE THEY SAY, VINCE.
>>ALL FOUR TIRES ARE UP, ALLEN, ALL FOUR TIRES ARE UP.
IT LOOKED AS THOUGH SOMETHING THAT KEVIN WAS FEELING FROM
INSIDE THE CAR. TEAM MEMBERS ARE GOING OVER THEM
WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB. IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE HE HAD A
TIRE DOWN.>>SO, THAT LEAVES KEVIN ABOUT A
LAP AND 3/4 QUARTERS BEHIND RACE LEADER JOEY LOGANO.
BUT BECAUSE HE STOPPED WITH 51 LAPS TO GO, THAT PUTS HIM ON THE
EDGE OF A FUEL WINDOW THERE TO MAKE IT TO THE FINISH ON THE
EDGE OF ONE.>>IF IT GOES GREEN FROM HERE,
HE CAN PROBABLY MAKE IT TO THE FINISH.
I’M SURE HE’S NERVOUS ABOUT BEING A LAP DOWN NOW.
>>HE NEEDS ONE OF TWO THINGS TO HAPPEN FOR IT NOT BE
DEVASTATING. RUN UNTIL THE END AND MAKE IT ON
THE FUEL. OR A QUICK CAUTION HERE, COME
IN, GET THEIR TIRES. HE CAN GET A WAVE-AROUND AND GET
BACK ON
THE LEAD LAP.>>ANOTHER CAR SLOWING AND
GIVING UP POSITIONS AND POSSIBLY REPORTING A PROBLEM IS MATT
KENSETH, HE WAS NINTH. DOC, HE’S DROPPED BACK TO 10th,
MAYBE 11th HERE.>>MATT A MOMENT AGO ON THE
RADIO SAID SUDDENLY IT’S GOTTEN LOOSE, IT’S VIBRATING, SHAKING.
HE SAYS HE HAS A LEFT REAR TIRE COMING APART OR GOING DOWN.
HE’S BACKED OFF TO GET SOME ROOM TO SLOW DOWN AND THEY HAD IT UP
ON THE WALL WAITING FOR HIM TO COME DOWN PIT ROAD.
IT IS HIS CHOICE IF HE COMES OR NOT.
>>I CAN UNDERSTAND THESE GUYS BEING GUN-SHY FROM WHAT WE HAVE
SEEN TODAY. MATT IS GOING TO BRING IT TO PIT
ROAD.>>HARVICK AND NOW KENSETH ON
PIT ROAD FOR GREEN-FLAG STOPS.>>FOUR TIRES WHEN HE GETS HERE.
FOUR TIRES. SEVEN AWAY.
>>WELL, FROM 27th ALL OF THE WAY TO TOP TEN RUNNING NINTH
AFTER HAVING DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT, THEY HAVE MADE A CHASSIS
ADJUSTMENT WITH A WEDGE, SUDDENLY THEY HAVE THIS ISSUE,
THEY’RE POINTING TO THE LEFT REAR.
HE HAS FOUR TIRES. HE’S AWAY.
>>KYLE BUSCH, MARTIN TRUEX JR. FOR FIFTH PLACE.
>>KYLE BUSCH WHAT HE’S BEEN ABLE TO DO AFTER THAT SPEEDING
PENALTY GOING TO THE BACK, BETWEEN OTHERS HAVING PROBLEMS
AND HIS CAR BEING PRETTY GOOD AND BEING PATIENT, HE’LL COME
AWAY WITH A REALLY GOOD DAY AT KANSAS.
>>LOOKING FOR HIS FIRST-EVER TOP FIVE FINISH IN A SPRINT CUP
SERIES RACE HERE CAT KANSAS SPEEDWAY.
>>AMAZING ALL OF THE CHASE DRIVERS WE’RE SEEING HAVING
ISSUES TODAY OF SOME KIND.>>LONG LIST.
SO, KYLE RUNNING FIFTH. JOEY LOGANO LEADING.
44 LAPS TO STILL TO GO AT KANSAS.
WE GO NASCAR NONSTOP. ON
.>>>BACK AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY,
KASEY KAHNE IS ON PIT ROAD, HE SAID HIS CAR WAS AS TIGHT AS
IT’S BEEN THIS ONE. HE WAS CONCERNED, HE FITTED
WITHIN THE FUEL WINDOW. KENNY TOLD HIM TO PIT NOW IF YOU
WANT TO AND HE DID. HE HAS FUEL TO GO TO THE END AND
NOW FOUR FRESH TIRES.>>CAN’T SPEED GETTING OUT OF
THERE. BUT HE CAN SURE —
>>ONE IN THE WALL. TURN FOUR.
GREG BIFFLE. THE CAUTION FLAG IS OUT.
GREG BIFFLE RUNNING IN 13th AT THE TIME.
AND SOME PRETTY GOOD LEFT FRONT DAMAGE IT WOULD APPEAR ON THAT
16 CAR.>>IT LOOKED LIKE THAT MIGHT
HAVE BEEN THE ISSUE FOR HIM. IN TURNS ONE AND TWO WHEN THE 9
AND THE 16 GOT TOGETHER. BELIEVE THAT LEFT FRONT WENT
DOWN. THAT WAS UP IN THREE AND FOUR.
>>SO, YELLOW FLAG NUMBER SEVEN IN THIS RACE, ERASES A BIG GAP
JOEY LOGANO AND KYLE LARSON HAD OVER THE REST OF THE PACK.
SETS UP SOME INTERESTING CIRCUMSTANCES FOR KEVIN HARVICK,
KASEY KAHNE AND MATT KENSETH. AND NOW, HERE COME THE LEADERS
TO PIT ROAD FOR STOPS WITH 37 — WHAT WILL BE 36 LAPS TO GO.
GOT TO CHANGE ALL FOUR LEER, RIGHT?
>>NO. I’M NOT SURE ABOUT THAT.
NOT EVERYBODY, ANYWAY.>>ALL RIGHT, DAVE.
>>FROM SECOND COMES KYLE LARSON, HE CALLED HIS CAR
BORDERLINE TOO LOOSE, SEE IF THEY GO FOR THE LEFT SIDE TIRES,
THEY WILL. FOUR-TIRE STOP FOR KYLE.
>>HE SAID HE NEEDS HELP ON ENTRY, LARSON, TWO TIRES AND
AWAY.>>RYAN NEWMAN THINKING ABOUT
FUEL-ONLY, COULDN’T TAKE A CHANCE.
CALLED FOR RIGHT SIDES AND FUEL. VINCE?
>>FOUR ALL DAY LONG FOR JOEY LOGANO, NO CHANGE HERE, NO
CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT, JUST FOUR FRESH TIRES AND SUE KNEW KOE
FUEL TO GET
TO THE END.>>RYAN NEWMAN FIRST OFF THE PIT
LANE. IN WHAT SHOULD BE A VERY
INTERESTING 35-LAP RUN TO THE FINISH COMING UP.
>>>DOUBLING UP FOR THE RESTART THAT’S GOING TO COME WITH 33
LAPS TO GO HERE AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY.
AFTER ALL OF THE DIFFICULTIES THAT DRIVERS INVOLVED IN THE
GROUP OF 12 COMPETING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THIS CONTENDER
ROUND HAVE HAD TODAY, SOME STRATEGY JUST PLAYED NOW, MAKES
RYAN NEWMAN THE RACE LEADER. A QUICK CATALOGING OF SOME OF
THOSE DIFFICULTIES TODAY. JIMMIE JOHNSON, DALE EARNHARDT
JR., BRAD KESELOWSKI, ALL BACK IN THE RACE.
JUNIOR AND KESELOWSKI HAVING RIGHT FRONTS GOING DOWN.
JUNIOR WHILE LEADING THIS RACE. HARVICK, MATT KENSETH AND KASEY
KAHNE, ALL WITH GREEN-FLAG PIT STOPS, THEY HAVE TAKEN A
WAVE-AROUND TO COME BACK ON THE LEAD LAP.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DRIVERS AND WHERE THEY’RE RUNNING ON THE
RIGHT SIDE AND WHERE THE CUT LINE WOULD BE A COUPLE OF RACES
FROM NOW, THERE’S SOME GROUND TO MAKE UP FOR THE 22, 2 AND 48.
>>THIS TOO SHALL CHANGE.>>A VERY INTENSE RESTART ABOUT
TO UNFOLD.>>THAT IS CLINT BOWYER AROUND
TURNS ONE AND TWO. THAT WHITE AND PINK 150.
— 15. NEWMAN LEADS.
LOGANO HAS GOTTEN TO SECOND.>>THIS TIME, KYLE LARSON’S ABLE
TO STAY RIGHT ON THE BUMPER OF THE 22 CAR, THAT COULD BE
BENEFICIAL, THEY HAVE FOUR TIRES.
>>KASEY KAHNE HAS GOT THE WALL. CAUTION FOR THE KAHNE CAR.
>>CAUTION’S OUT. GET READY, GUYS.
>>BAD TO WORSE FOR KASEY, RUNNING 18th AT THE TIME AND HAD
JUST TAKEN THE WAVE-AROUND TO GET BACK ON THE LEAD LAP.
>>YEAH, HE’S HAD SUCH A STRUGGLE WITH HIS CARTON
RESTARTS.>>HERE’S KASEY KAHNE, AS HE
GOES INTO THE CORNER, HE BARELY TOUCHED IT ON THE ENTRY, BUT
THAT’S NOT WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTED.
RIGHT HERE, HE GETS LOOSE AND NOWHERE TO CATCH IT.
HARD INTO THE WALL A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT TIMES.
LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT SIDE.>>TWO HANDS A WHEEL OVER THE
TOP TRYING TO CATCH THAT THING.>>KEEPING BUSY.
>>A CAR THAT YOU HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH, OUTSIDE IS NOT
WHERE YOU WANT TO BE UNTIL THE AIR PRESSURE GETS BUILT UP, AS
YOU SEE THE ISSUES IT CAUSED FOR KASEY KAHNE, ANOTHER CHASE
DRIVER, BIG ISSUES.>>SO, KASEY KAHNE INTO THE
WALL, ALL FOUR HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS CARS HAVE HAD
PROBLEMS TODAY. YOU’LL SEE SOME PIT STOPS AS WE
GO NASCAR NONSTOP PRESENTED BY
SUNOCO.>>>DOUBLED UP FOR A RESTART.
PIT STOPS FOR THE CARS THAT TOOK THE WAVE-AROUND.
MATT KENSETH, ALONG WITH GREG BIFFLE.
KASEY KAHNE HAS RETURNED TO THE RACE.
HE HAS STAYED ON THE LEAD LAP. HARVICK IS BACK IN 19th.
NEWMAN IS THE CONTROL CAR FOR THE RESTART.
HE’S ON THE OUTSIDE LANE WITH JOEY LOGANO TO HIS LEFT.
>>THREE WIDE.>>KYLE LARSON ABLE TO GET OUT
OF THAT THREE WIDE SITUATION, THAT MIGHT BE THE MOVE THAT
MIGHT GIVE HIM ANY CHANCE TO WIN THIS RACE.
>>TRUEX IS FOURTH. EDWARDS FIFTH.
NEWMAN SHUFFLED BACK TO SIXTH.>>HOW ABOUT KYLE BUSCH RUNNING
SECOND? MAYBE HE’LL BREAK THAT KANSAS
CURSE.>>KYLE LARSON IS COMING IN A
HURRY ONCE AGAIN.>>LOGANO OUT THERE IN CLEAN
AIR, HE BETTER DISPOSE OF KYLE BUSCH QUICKER.
>>HE’S NOT GOING TO WASTE ANY TIME.
>>SO, LARSON TO SECOND.>>WE’LL SEE IF LARSON CAN EAT
INTO THE LEAD OF LOGANO. FURTHER BACK IN THE PACK TRYING
TO SEE IF KEVIN HARVICK IS MAKING ANY PROGRESS THROUGH.
HE’S IN 13th PLACE. THERE’S KEVIN.
>>HE’S DOING OKAY. HE’S NOT THE CAR I’M SEEING
MAKING PROGRESS FROM BACK THERE. IT’S JAMIE McMURRAY, HE’LL NEED
ANOTHER CAUTION TO HAVE A SHOT AT THIS.
>>ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, CIRCUMSTANCES WORKING OUT OKAY
FOR HARVICK AND KENSETH TO TRY TO RECOVER FROM THE GREEN-FLAG
PIT STOPS. THERE’S McMURRAY AND YOU SEE THE
SCORING RUN ON HIM.>>HARVICK GOT INTO A REALLY BAD
SPOT OFF OF TURN TWO, BUT BOWYER KIND OF GAVE HIM A BREAK THERE
INSTEAD OF PUTTING HIM IN A THREE-WIDE SITUATION.
>>SO 23 LAPS TO GO. JOEY LOGANO THE LEADER.
ONE OF THE STORIES OF THE DAY HAS BEEN WHAT’S GOING ON WITH
SOME OF THE LEADERS THAT HAS CAUSED THE RIGHT SIDE ISSUES AND
THE CARS CONTENDING FOR THE WIN TO GET INTO THE WALL, DAVE BURNS
HAS MORE ON THIS FOR YOU.>>ALLEN, WE ASKED GOODYEAR
DIRECTOR OF RACING TO JOIN US, WHAT ISSUES HAVE YOU SEEN WITH
THE ENGINEERS SPECIFIC TO THE 88 AND THE 2, CHASE CONTENDER.
>>Reporter: WE SAW RIGHT FRONTS THAT WENT DOWN, TRYING TO FIGURE
OUT EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE TEAM.
IN A RACE LIKE THIS, IN A CHASE, EVERYBODY’S KIND OF PUSHING THE ENVELOPE.
TIRES LOOKED BEAUTIFUL UP AND DOWN PIT ROAD.
WE’LL HAVE TO SIT DOWN AND MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTAND THEY MADE THE
ADJUSTMENTS ON THOSE RUNS VERSUS WHAT WE HAVE SEEN BEFORE THOSE
INCIDENTS.>>THANK YOU FOR THE IMPACT.
THE 42 OF KYLE LARSON THE LEFTS THAT CAME OFF OF THAT THEY SAID
THAT’S A GOOD THING WE GOT THOSE OFF, THEY WERE CLOSE TO WEAR.
>>ALL RIGHT, DAVE, IT’S KIND OF PUZZLING BECAUSE WE HAD THAT
OVER 10 ON-MILE GREEN FLAG START TO START THE RACE.
EVERYTHING FOR PEOPLE TO DIGEST AFTER THIS RACE IN KANSAS.
>>YOU EXPECT THE WORST OF THE RACE IS THE FIRST RACE, THAT’S
THE HARDEST SECTION OF THE RACE FOR THE TIRE.
I DIDN’T SEE ANY PROBLEMS THEN. THEN THEY STARTED CROPPING UP.
>>WATCHING HARVICK MAKING HIS WAY, RIDING ALONG WITH CLINT
BOWYER HERE. HARVICK’S INABILITY TO RUN THE
TOP IS NOT ABLING HIM TO MOVE FORWARD.
>>HARVICK, THERE IN THE 4. 13th PLACE.
TRYING TO GET AROUND BRIAN VICKERS FOR 12th.
VINCE?>>THAT’S BEEN THE SITUATION THE
ENTIRE DAY FOR KEVIN HARVICK, HE’S JUST NOT BEEN ABLE TO RUN
THAT TOP HALF OF THE TRACK WHERE SO MANY OTHERS ARE MAKING SPEED
AND THEY MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE CHASSIS AND DONE AIR PRESSURE
ADJUSTMENTS EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO GET KEVIN UP TOP AND RUN.
IT’S NOT BEEN THEIR DAY TODAY AS WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.
>>ANOTHER DAY OF A REALLY FAST CAR THAT LED A LOFT LAPS.
BUT WHATEVER IT WAS, THAT BROUGHT KEVIN HARVICK TO PIT
ROAD AT LAP 214, HE SUSPECTED HE HAD A RIGHT FRONT GOING DOWN,
WHATEVER IT IS HAS LEFT KEVIN HARVICK FIGHTING JUST TO GET
BACK INTO TOP TEN. RYAN NEWMAN SHUCHD FROM FIRST TO
SIXTH AFTER THE RESTART. JAMIE McMURRAY CONTINUES TO
CHARGE, IN THAT 1. MORE ON NEWMAN FROM DOC.
>>YEAH, A MINUTE TO GO RYAN NEWMAN WAS THE LEADER ON THE
RESTART AND SOME OF THE CARS LED BACK, LAMBERT WAS PRETTY UPSET
AND SAID, WHAT ARE THE RULES ON THE RESTART?
WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? HE SAID K YOU LAY BACK ON THE
RESTART LIKE THE? NOT HAPPY.
S HIS DRIVER JUST PASSED McMURRAY ON THE TRACK.
>>ALL RIGHT, SO RYAN NEWMAN FALLING BACK NOW TO SEVENTH
PLACE.>>JUST OUR IN-RACE REPORTER
CARL EDWARDS HAS STRUGGLED A BIG PORTION OF THIS DAY BETWEEN
OTHERS HAVING PROBLEMS AND MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS, HE HAS
A TOP FIVE CAR RIGHT NOW. I WOULD SAY CARL THIS WAS
OUTSTANDING IF HE COULD COME HOME IN FIFTH.
>>I TALKED TO HIM THIS MORNING, HE SAID A TOP FIVE WOULD BE A
GOOD RUN FOR THEM TODAY.>>CARL TALKED ABOUT THE FORMAT
OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND GIVEN WHERE THEIR TEAM HAS BEEN THIS
SEASON, THE STRUCTURE WAS KIND OF MADE FOR THEM.
AFTER THE FIRST THREE RACES THE POINTS WERE RESET TO ZERO, THEY
COME INTO THIS ROUND WHERE THEY FIGURE THEY CAN RUN WELL HERE
AND CHARLOTTE. WHETHER THEY NEED TO OR NOT,
THEY’LL RUN WELL AND SO HE THOUGHT WE GOT THROUGH THE FIRST
ROUND, WE CAN GET THROUGH THE SECOND ROUND, WHO KNOWS?
WE CAN WIN IT.>>ALL THE WHILE, THEY KEEP
WORKING ON THEIR CARS TO GET THEM FASTER.
>>SO, CARL THERE, WITH JAMIE McMURRAY GETTING PASSED HIM X
McMURRAY TO FIFTH AND CARL EDWARDS IN SIXTH POSITION.
>>THE SPEED OUT OF THIS 1 CAR ON THIS RUN, THAT WE SAW EARLY
IN THE RACE, I WATCHED HIM, AS A MATTER OF FACT, I POINTED TO
ANDY EARLIER, WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH JAMIE, HE
WAS A QUARTER OF A LAP FROM GOING A LAP DOWN.
I KNOW THAT THEY HAD SOME ISSUES TO START IN THE REAR.
>>WE HAVE HEARD PEOPLE TALKED ABOUT HOW DIFFICULT THE AIR IS
WHEN YOU GET BACK IN TRAFFIC AND REMEMBER JAMIE GOT THAT PIT ROAD
SPEEDING PENALTY BACK AT LAP 192, SENT HIM FROM THIRD ALL OF
THE WAY BACK TO 21st.>>IT SEEMS TO STACK UP, THE
FURTHER BACK YOU ARE THE WORSE IT IS.
>>HE’S INCHING HIS WAY THERE. JUST A LITTLE BIT.
>>6/10th OF A SECOND BACK. 12 LAPS TO GO.
>>IF HE CAN GET A LITTLE BIT CLOSER HERE, AS HE INCHES HIS
WAY THERE.>>LOGANO —
>>START LOOKING IN THAT MIRROR, SPENDING MORE TIME LOOKING BACK
THAN LOOKING FORWARD. ANY TIME YOU DO IT TAKES YOUR
FOCUS OFF WHAT YOU HAVE TO BE DOING AS A DRIVER.
>>KYLE BUSCH RUNNING IN THIRD. JAMIE.
>>IT HAS BEEN A GOOD WEEKEND FOR KYLE BUSCH, ONE OF HIS WORST
RACETRACKS AND YOU THINK THE GUY’S A LITTLE UNEASY WHEN HE
COMES HERE, HE’S HAD SOME BAD RUNS, FOUR DNFs, TWO ACCIDENTS.
ALL LAST YEAR. DAVE SAID THAT ALONE IS SO GOOD
FOR KYLE’S CONFIDENCE, THIS TRACK ISN’T SUITABLE FOR HIS
DRIVING STYLE, HE LEARNED SOME THINGS YESTERDAY THE CAR HAS HAD
GOOD SPEED. BUT, GUYS, HE JUST SAID ON THE
RADIO, I’M NOT SURE IT’S GOING TO LAST, YOU BETTER MAKE A PLAN.
I’M NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS. BUT THE TEAM IS LOOKING AROUND.
>>WELL, SOMETHING TO KEEP AN EYE ON FOR THE THIRD-PLACE
RUNNER KYLE BUSCH. KYLE LARSON CONTINUING TO CLOSE
ON JOEY LOGANO AS THEY BEGIN TO WORK SOME LAPPED TRAFFIC.
>>A COUPLE OF RUNS AGO, WHEN THEY GOT IN TRAFFIC, LARSON WAS
ABLE TO CLOSE IN RIGHT ON HIS BUMPER.
THIS KIND OF FORCES LOGANO TO RUN IN DIRTY AIR.
HE DOESN’T HAVE THAT CLEAN AIR WHEN HE GETS NEAR THESE CARS.
>>A LITTLE WIGGLE THERE BY LARSON, EXITING FOUR.
>>IT’S EVERYTHING THIS 42 WILL DO RIGHT NOW.
NOT THAT LOGANO ISN’T PUTTING FORWARD THAT SAME EFFORT.
>>THIS COULD BE SUCH A HUGE STATEMENT AND RELIEF FOR THIS 22
TEAM IF THEY’RE ABLE TO GET THROUGH HERE.
PUNCH THEIR TICKET ON INTO THAT NEXT ROUND.
>>SOMEBODY WHO DOESN’T CARE A BIT ABOUT THAT, THAT’S KYLE
LARSON.>>ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT
ISSUE, LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE TALKED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO
NONCHASERS WIN A COUPLE OF THESE RACERS?
TALKING ABOUT THE SQUEEZE THIS THE BUBBLE OF PRESSURE AT
TALLADEGA. WELL, THERE IT IS.
FIRST TO SECOND. AS THEY GO AROUND THE DAVID
GILLILAND CAR. LOGANO AND LARSON.
>>HOW GOOD HAS LARSON BEEN? THINK ABOUT THE JOB THAT LARSON
HAS DONE IN ALL OF THESE CHASE RACES.
>>OFF THE PACE, TURN THREE.>>LARSON, GOING BACK TO
MICHIGAN, WHERE HE HAD A PROBLEM — EITHER BLEW A TIRE OR
WHATEVER PUT HIM IN THE WALL THERE KNOCKED HIM OUT OF THE
CHASE OR HE WOULD BE RIGHT THERE.
>>OH. SAW JAMIE McMURRAY, LOOKED LIKE
THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT.>>HE WAS ON PIT ROAD.
>>HE SLOWED FROM FIFTH PLACE. WE STAY UNDER GREEN.
FIVE TO GO. LARSON STALKING LOGANO.
THREE MORE LAP CARS JUST AHEAD.>>COUPLE OF THEM SIDE BY SIDE
HERE. COULD MAKE IT INTERESTING.
>>CASEY MEARS MOVING DOWN, YIELDING THE TOP LANE TO THE
LEADER. DAVID RAGAN NEXT AHEAD IN THE
34.>>GOOD JOB BY DAVID RAGAN
THERE, GETTING DOWN OUT OF THE WAY.
UNDERSTOOD THE SITUATION HERE.>>OOH LARSON STILL GETTING IT
OFF.>>IF HE DIDN’T SCRAPE IT, THERE
WASN’T ENOUGH ROOM FOR ANOTHER COAT OF PAINT ON THE SIDE OF
THAT CAR.>>HE’S NOT APARADE TO GET IT UP
THERE AND BOUNCE IT OFF THERE A COUPLE OF TIMES.
>>THREE LAPS TO GO.>>LOGANO PULLED JUST ENOUGH GAP

    Thx nascar go 24!!

  7. The Frozen Pines says:

Question: What's the cars with the flared sideskirts all about? Some cars have them, so cars don't.

LP2008 set the foundation for nascar uploading full race. I think they finally realize what fans want at last. If you don't know lp2008 then you could search it yourself.

  12. iFunnyRED says:

This race was perfect in just about every way. Now if only Kyle Busch had crashed…

  13. mwangi kevin says:

Yes "good24" LP2008 was the best, been watching NASCAR from him & he was great. The editing, cutting out the Ad's etc. He was even better that Nascar right now. Sad do u think he can come back, or if he still posts epic NASCAR races on another plattform? good24, are u a Jeff Gordon fan?, i am, since 1994.

  14. Kevin says:

I hate how the tv never emphasis the sideskirt issue. ITs obvious teams pull it out. If that were to touch a tire it would def cut down the tire.

  16. warrdogg says:

Thanks NASCAR for uploading these races. There's a few times in the season I am unable to watch a race r PVR. This will let me see the races instead of missing them. Thanks again.

I do like the new Chase format, its good for NASCAR to have a change around, just hope they dont eventually go the way F1 went and downsize the engines. Keep it the way it is! Watch every race from England! Love it!
